Donald Trump urges Putin and Zelenskyy to 'get together' and 'stop the war'
US President Donald Trump has called for an immediate end to the Russia-Ukraine war, urging both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reach a ceasefire through negotiations.
Trump argued that the war has led to unnecessary loss of life and financial strain on the United States.
"President Putin and President Zelenskyy have to get together because we want to stop the war and stop killing millions of people. I want to see a ceasefire, and I want to get the deal done," Trump said. He added that while the war directly affects Europe, it does not have the same impact on the US, which is "on the other side of the ocean."
'A dictator without elections'
Trump did not hold back in his criticism of Zelenskyy, calling him "a dictator without elections" and accusing him of mismanaging the war. He claimed that Ukraine has lost control, with millions of lives destroyed and half of the aid money "missing."
He wrote, "Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is 'MISSING.' He refuses to have elections, is very low in Ukrainian polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden 'like a fiddle.'"
Criticism of US financial aid
Trump expressed frustration over the financial burden on the US, claiming it had provided $300 billion in aid compared to Europe's $100 billion. He slammed former US President Joe Biden for funding Ukraine without securing loans or guarantees in return.
"We have put in much more money. We are in for USD 300 billion, and they (Europe) are in for USD 100 billion. Biden just gave them money, there was no loan or security. We have to sign a deal to get security. We are spending our treasure on a country that is very far away," he said.
Trump also accused Zelenskyy of persuading the US into excessive spending on a war he believes cannot be won. In a post on Truth Social, he said, "Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion dollars, to go into a war that couldn't be won, that never had to start."
'Only Trump can bring peace'
Trump insisted that only his administration could have successfully ended the war. "We are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something all admit only 'TRUMP' and the Trump Administration, can do," he said.
While expressing support for Ukraine, he blamed Zelenskyy's leadership for its current state. "I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and millions have unnecessarily died," he added.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is currently Trump's right-hand man in his second term, has also shared similar sentiments, calling out Ukraine and Zelenskyy for mismanaging the war and causing the loss of thousands of lives.
