Gurmeet Choudhary opened up about his struggle days and how his wife, Debina Bonnerjee, stood by him through it all. In a heartfelt conversation with Humans of Bombay, the couple shared their inspiring journey of love, resilience, and success.
Money will give you many things and I am not saying money is not important. But if you get married thinking only about money and fall in love, you won’t be happy. I found a girl a like Debinna, which is why I have reached where I am today.
The way Debinna has supported me… I remember only having a bike and I didn’t even have money to buy petrol. Surviving in Mumbai was difficult in those days and in a moment like that, when a girl comes into your life who shows that belief in you…that’s very important.
For me, my career and Debinna were both equally important. Being successful in my career was equally important to getting married to Debinna. She guided me throughout. There were many things in my life, getting rejected in work and having a partner, who shows that faith in you and stand with you, I got that from Debinna.
Back then, I had met Debinna’s parents. They treated me like their son. I had Rs 500-600 in my account. Imagine, her father knew that and also knew that his daughter loves this guy. Who would want a guy having Rs 500-600 marry their daughter? Even then her parents supported me.
The love and support that I got back then would only push me ahead. Debinna’s support has mattered the most for me. Had she not been there, I wouldn’t be here. I might have gone astray like other guys who come to the big city. Meeting Debinna, when I was 18, I had my focus.
My only focus was to do good work. Mujhe Debinna ko khush rakhna hai boss. I don’t have money now, but whatever happiness is there, I have to give it to Debinna. At the age of 18, I don’t remember I ever partying. I would work, shoot and come back home to Debinna. So it’s all because of her.
