The star of the match was vice-captain Shubman Gill, who played a stellar unbeaten knock of 101 runs off 129 balls, earning him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
India’s bowlers, led by veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, were instrumental in restricting Bangladesh to a modest total of 228 runs. Shami’s exceptional performance saw him claim five wickets, making him the fastest bowler to take 200 ODI wickets in terms of balls bowled, surpassing Australian pacer Mitchell Starc’s record. Additionally, he became the fastest Indian to achieve the milestone in terms of matches played, breaking the previous record held by Ajit Agarkar.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also achieved a significant milestone in the match, becoming the second-fastest batsman in ODI history to reach 11,000 runs. He accomplished this feat in 11,868 balls, trailing only behind Virat Kohli’s record of 11,831 balls.
With this victory, India now shifts its focus to the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan, their arch-rivals and defending champions. The upcoming India vs Pakistan match is set to take place in Dubai, and a loss for Pakistan could lead to their early elimination from the tournament.
