Elon Musk has once again offered Wikipedia $1 billion—on the condition that it changes its name. In a series of tweets, Musk reiterated that he remains willing to donate $1 billion if the platform agrees to rename itself. His statement came in response to a tweet from a user named John's Memes, who asked, "Does this offer still stand, @elonmusk?" Musk replied, "Offer still stands. Come on, do it …"
The tweet shared a screenshot of Elon Musk's old tweet that said, "I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia." To rewind, in October 2023, Elon Musk had offered Wikipedia $1 billion only if it changed its name to "Dickipedia".
Elon Musk also made fun of Wikipedia asking for financial assistance. A Twitter user named Piet wrote, shared a photo of a man with 'Wikipedia head' reading "Wikipedia when I open a page on their website, it asks for financial assistance". Elon Musk wrote "Every time" responding to the post, ending with a smiling emoji.
Elon Musk's 'Wikipedia request' to his supporters
Late last year, Tesla CEO made a 'Wikipedia request' to his followers. Elon Musk called upon his followers to stop donating to the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organisation behind Wikipedia, citing concerns over its spending on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
In a post on Twitter, he wrote, "Stop donating to Wokepedia until they restore balance to their editing authority," responding to a post from 'Libs of TikTok' account that highlighted a pie chart showing that 29% of Wikipedia's $177 million budget for 2023-24 was allocated to "equity" and "safety & inclusion."
The post was made on the same day Musk reaffirmed his offer to donate $1 billion to Wikipedia if it changed its name. In November 2024, when Doge Designer reshared the original post on X, Musk replied, "True. Offer still stands."
