Elon Musk has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of the murder of an American journalist. The billionaire who is also a senior adviser to the US President Donald Trump made this claim while replying to a clip from an interview of Tucker Carlson and Robert Amsterdam that was shared on social media platform X (earlier Twitter). Musk’s claims were in response to reports claiming that Chilean-American journalist Gonzalo Lira was killed in Ukraine last year for allegedly being critical of Zelensky.

The post accuses Zelensky of multiple crimes. It reads: “Tucker Carlson and Bob Amsterdam reveal the truth about The Zelensky Government in Ukraine
- Zelensky jails or sanctions or charges with treason his opponents
- He's destroyed a free media
- He sends his secret police to churches, “A lot of people have been killed”
- He’s “beaten our priests, beaten our parishioners, and I have this all on video”
- Zelensky’s Secret Police wear death masks with Nazi insignias on their arm
- He's destroyed civil society
‘They've committed a lot of violence. A lot of people have been killed. Non-combatants have been killed by the Zelensky government’”
Replying to this, Musk said: “Zelensky should not have murdered an American journalist. He didn’t even understand why that was bad.”
This comes after Trump described the Ukrainian leader as a “dictator without elections” and warned that he “better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.”
The two have clashed since Zelenskyy criticised the Trump administration's handling of the war and US military support. Trump, who has been sceptic of Ukraine's need for US aid, has repeatedly stated that the war could have been prevented if Zelenskyy had acted differently.
In a recent interview, Trump further said that he believes that the war should never have happened and could have been “solved and settled immediately.”
