WWE Saturday Night Main Event: The Winged Eagle Championship Belt's IMPORTANCE Explained

Since its creation in 1963, the WWE Championship belt has seen numerous alterations, in particular, the designs have consistently changed throughout time. One of the most cherished title designs ever is the: Winged Eagle design from 1988. Given its popularity, some people may be curious about the background of such a fun design, especially after Triple H confirmed its only time return to Cody Rhodes for Saturday Night’s Main Event. Furthermore, this belt has been worn by celebrities like Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan.

Early in 1988, Hulk Hogan, one of the greatest WWE Champions of all time, unveiled the Winged Eagle belt. Since then, the Winged Eagle belt made a name for itself in the latter years of the 1980s, when it was worn by great wrestlers like Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, and The Ultimate Warrior. After which, when any wrestling stars took home the Winged Eagle belt portrayed it as a springboard to prominence, given that the level of star power was at an all-time high during this era.

From the first champion, Buddy Rogers, to more recent winners like John Cena, Triple H, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, it is a title that has been held by some of the greatest WWE superstars of all time.

NBC and Peacock will broadcast live coverage of this event, as Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens. Triple H's unique present, thought to be the winged eagle belt, will be on display "for one night only." Rhodes' desire to wear that belt and its significance has never wavered. Rhodes stated that he was still trying to persuade WWE executives to reinstate it in September.
He said, “I’m so glad you asked. Please know, anyone who [has] ever heard me say the words ‘Winged Eagle Title. It is safe to say that it is a dream come true for Rhodes. The main event on Saturday night will be even more thrilling to watch because Rhodes will be taking on Kevin Owens, his old best friend. At WWE Bad Blood, Owens eventually lost it and attacked The American Nightmare. Rhodes challenged him for Saturday Night's Main Event after they had an altercation on SmackDown.

Rhodes approached the fight somewhat facetiously carrying the renowned Winged Eagle WWE Championship belt for just one night, but he eventually equaled his opponent's brutality. Owens followed suit, coming into the fight with an aggressive intensity.
