The NFL world and comedy collided when Emmy-winning actor
Will Ferrell made a guest appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce's "New Heights" podcast. Known for his unmatched humor, Ferrell didn't hold back, especially when recalling one unforgettable moment from
Travis Kelce’s career—a missed dunk that followed a historic touchdown.
Will Ferrell's Hilarious Take on Travis Kelce's Dunk Fail and Record-Breaking Feat
In Week 17's Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Travis Kelce broke the Kansas City Chiefs’ all-time touchdown record, surpassing the legendary Tony Gonzalez. As a tribute to the Hall of Famer, Kelce attempted to dunk the ball over the uprights after scoring the historic touchdown. However, his dunk attempt fell short, a moment Ferrell gleefully dissected during the podcast.
“I gotta bring something up,” Ferrell said, diving straight into the topic. “I happened to be watching, during the holiday break, the Pittsburgh game. When you scored, you went to go dunk the football, you missed the dunk.”
Kelce, ever the good sport, admitted to the mishap, responding, “I did not dunk it. I did not dunk it.” Ferrell took the banter a step further, jokingly questioning Kelce’s athleticism. “He doesn’t have the same hops,” Ferrell quipped, prompting Kelce to acknowledge, “I don’t. I don’t have the ups anymore. I used to.”
Standing 6-foot-5 and at the age of 35, Kelce might not possess the same explosiveness he once had, but his accomplishments remain unmatched. Drafted by the Chiefs in 2013, the three-time Super Bowl champion and 10-time Pro Bowler has cemented his legacy with 77 career touchdowns.
Travis Kelce Remains Hungry After Breaking Chiefs' Touchdown Record
Despite the lighthearted exchange with Ferrell, Kelce took a reflective moment on the "New Heights" podcast to discuss the significance of his achievement. While he appreciates the magnitude of breaking the Chiefs’ touchdown record, Kelce is far from complacent.
"I feel like towards the end of your career, when you hit these milestones, anybody playing past 10 years is gonna hit some type of milestone," Kelce remarked. "... It's cool but ... I feel like I'm in such a mode of trying to be better than I was yesterday. I'm always thinking of, 'I need to be better.'"

Kelce emphasized that he remains laser-focused on growth, striving to reach new heights in his career. "I'm not about to sit here and think about how far I've come when I'm still striving to go somewhere that's even greater than where I'm at," he added.
Over the years, Kelce’s perspective on greatness has evolved. Early in his career, stats were his primary measure of success. Now, he values his broader impact on the game.
"I know how to influence a game more than just what the stat book says. And I kind of pride myself on that now," Kelce explained. This mindset reflects his relentless drive to be the best version of himself, transcending numbers to leave a lasting legacy.
