Now, the focus shifts to their next move as they set their sights on another title run in 2025.
Will the Chiefs pay up or move on?
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Super Bowl LIX Game Highlights
The Kansas City Chiefs’ dream of a historic three-peat came crashing down in 2024 with a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, all eyes are on their next move as they gear up for another championship run in 2025.
But before they can reload, the Chiefs face a critical offseason decision, what to do with their top pending free agent,
Trey Smith. The former sixth-round steal from the 2021 NFL Draft has emerged as a dominant force on the offensive line, making him one of the most sought-after names on the market.
The challenge? Kansas City’s cap crunch. According to Over the Cap, the Chiefs have just $7.9 million in available cap space. With Smith projected to land a massive four-year, $78.8 million contract, keeping him in Kansas City will be a tall order.
Enter the Baltimore Ravens. With their own starting guard, Patrick Mekari, set to hit free agency, Baltimore could be a prime landing spot for Smith. Glenn Erby of Ravens Wire believes the Ravens may look to bring in the rising star to bolster their offensive line.

The challenge with this idea is Baltimore’s tight salary cap, as the Ravens are projected to have just $12.7 million in cap space.
Adding to their financial constraints, the Ravens must also address the left tackle position, with Ronnie Stanley set to hit free agency. It’s almost a given that Baltimore will prioritize protecting Lamar Jackson’s blindside before making a move for a top-tier guard like Smith. Realistically, they won’t have the flexibility to do both.
If the Ravens can navigate their cap constraints, Trey Smith could be a game-changing addition to their offensive line. The Tennessee standout didn’t allow a single sack in 2024, boasting an elite 80.8 run-blocking grade and a solid 70.6 pass protection mark, per Pro Football Focus, outshining Mekari in every key metric. But with Baltimore’s financial hurdles, the real question is: Can they pull off the move, or will another team swoop in?
