Anthony Davis looked back on his rookie season with the New Orleans Hornets. He shared a wild story about how his veteran teammates pulled a prank on him in 2012, led by Roger Mason.
Davis had just bought a brand-new sports car when Mason and the rest of the team decided to welcome him to the league with a little "hazing" which did not go well with him.
The one-time NBA champion recalled walking outside to find his prized ride completely vandalized. "They did get my car,” Davis said.
He further shared full details about the damage and revealed that the prank left a lasting memory. “So my dream car at that time was all white red interior so I wanted this car forever and I finally got it. I drove to practice, and the whole team knew. I don't know exactly what it's called, where we tape our ankles. They put it on the entire windshield, back windshield, the side windows, the car handle doors," he continued.
Davis was quite furious after his favorite car was damaged. Also, he knew who was the person responsible for the prank. As he was rushing out for revenge, his then-head coach Monty Williams intervened to cool him off. “So I'm hot, and I get out of the car, and our head coach, Monty Williams, at that time, sees me, and I'm flying because we live in the same apartment,” Davis shared.
Detailing the incident, he continued, “I was like, 'Yo, I'm about to see your car, I'm about to egg your car.' He calls me and was like 'Young buck listen, your time will come. When you're back and you're gonna do it to a rookie, like let it go, trust me.' He kinda talked me off the edge, but yeah, I was hot." AD added acknowledging that he has also followed the tradition with some rookies, "I was pissed but now, I'm a vet, I've done some things to rookies before with their cars."
