Alex Bregman needed only a few games to get the feel of a Boston Red Sox uniform. When the veteran infielder took the field to play in his first Grapefruit League game, a performance that had Red Sox fans buzzing broke out. From his first at-bat to his last swing, Bregman put on a performance that gave a glimpse of what he could add to Boston’s lineup this season.
Bregman’s standout performance at the plate
Batting third — with Rafael Devers out of the lineup — Alex Bregman wasted no time making his mark. In the second inning, Bregman, who had fallen behind, 2 and 1, against Toronto pitcher Andrew Bash, pounced on a fastball that hung over the plate and sent it flying over JetBlue Park’s version of the Green Monster for a two-run home run. The blast gave the Boston Red Sox a 3-0 lead.
Bregman’s productive day didn’t end there. He singled in his first at-bat off Toronto starter Yariel Rodríguez and later had a double to the wall off Jake Bloss outside of the fourth inning, on the way to driving in Nate Eaton for his third RBI of the game. His day ended in the sixth; Tyler Miller replaced him at third base.
High hopes for Bregman in Boston
The Boston Red Sox have every hope that Alex Bregman will hit at Fenway Park the way they did in the past. Bregman gave Red Sox pitching fits in his Houston Astros career, hitting .375 with a ridiculous 1.240 OPS there, plus nine doubles, seven home runs, and 15 RBI across just 21 games at Fenway.
With such a strong debut in spring training, Alex Bregman is already showing why he could be a key contributor to the Boston Red Sox this season. If this performance is any indication, Red Sox fans have plenty to look forward to as the new season approaches.
With spring training in full swing, all eyes are on Alex Bregman to see if he can keep up this momentum. His early success is a promising sign, but the real test will come when the regular season begins, and he steps up to the plate under the bright lights of Fenway Park.
