The New York Dodgers won the 2020 World Series Championship against the Tampa Bay Rays. Even though it's been five years since the World Series Win, Cody Bellinger has a fresh memory of that day. In fact, the Yankees star recently revisited his World Series memories and recalled "immediate emotions" after winning the Championship.
Cody Bellinger revisits 2020 World Series Championship memories
Cody Bellinger was interviewed by the New York Post on Saturday. During his interview, Bellinger revisited his 2020 World Series memories and recalled his firsthand reaction to winning the Championship game. Talking about how the postseason was "full of emotions" for him, Bellinger said:
"It’s pure joy. The postseason is full of emotions. You go through so many ups and downs so when you get that final out, it’s a feeling you really can’t explain — just all the hard work, and blood, sweat and tears you put into the season. The reason why you work out and the reason why you train and the reason why you grind is to win a World Series."In the 2020 regular season, Cody Bellinger had a "Wins Above Replacement" of 1.5 and scored a total of 12 home runs, which was considerably lower than his 47 home runs stats in 2019. But despite his performance not being a career-best, Bellinger played a major role in helping the Los Angeles Dodgers win the Championship.
Moving forward in the interview, Cody Bellinger talked about his approach to dealing with the expectations that come on a player during the World Series. Bellinger claimed that he went into the World Series with the aim to appear in the "parade in New York." Opening up about the same, Bellinger said:
"I think that’s what it’s all about. I think that as a player, that’s all you can ask for. You’re only playing this game to win a World Series and to have a parade at the end of it. And anything short of that is a failure. It’s a blessing to be in that position. There’s nothing anybody wants more than a parade in New York, the best place in the world to win one."Cody Bellinger has been struggling to retain his World-series-like performance since last year and recently opened up about being "frustrated" with the same.
