The Los Angeles Dodgers have joined the race to acquire Alex Bregman. The market is pretty hot for Bregman, as the teams go arm-to-arm to sign him. However, considering the increased competition, the Astors owner will be chipping in more money to ensure that Alex Bregman doesn't leave the team. An MLB analyst recently shed light on the Astors owner's plans to extend Bregman's contract.

MLB analyst Chandler Rome reflected on Astors' owner's plans to keep Alex Bregman

However, despite the competition, the Houston Astros would do anything to keep Alex Bregman, even if it comes at the cost of spending a fortune. MLB analyst Chandler Rome recently revealed that Astros owner Jim Crane won't shy away from going beyond the line to keep Bregman with the team.

On Friday, Chandler Rome made an appearance on the "Foul Territory" podcast, during which he explained how Jim Crane won't let the competition take away Alex Bregman. Talking about how Bregman means so much to the team that Crane won't shy away from shaking the bank for re-signing him, Rome said:

“In Jim Crane’s ownership tenure, it really has been that he has been okay to pay the luxury tax. It just has to be for a move that he determines as kind of the thing that puts the cherry on top, the real meaningful addition.”

"And I think what Alex Bregman, what Alex Bregman means to this franchise, what Alex Bregman has meant to this golden era and what Alex Bregman means in that clubhouse. You guys saw how vocal Jose Altuve was all season at the end of the season about retaining him, would not be surprised if they kind of throw caution to the wind and say, you know what? We’ll cross it for Alex Bregman," Rome further added.

Many players like Jose Altuve have made it pretty clear that they all want Alex Bregman in the team. When combined with the interest of Jim Crane, there's a good chance that Bregman might indeed end up signing a massive extension contract with the Astros.

Alex Bregman started his journey in MLB in 2016 when he was drafted by the Houston Astros. Bregman has stayed with the team for a decade, helping the team achieve massive success. Over his course of 10 years in the league. Bregman has won All-Star awards twice and helped the Astros win the World Series Championship in 2017 and 2022.

Apart from that, he also won the All-MLB Second Team award in 2019 and the Silver Slugger award in the same year. Most recently, Alex Bregman won the Gold Glove Award in 2024. Till last season, Bregman collected a total of 1132 hits and 191 home runs, with a batting average of .272. Let’s see if the Astros succeed in retaining Bregman for another season.
