India vs Bangladesh highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: Shubman Gill slams unbeaten ton to power India to six-wicket win over Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: A stellar century from Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami's five-wicket haul were instrumental as India secured a six-wicket victory against Bangladesh in their ICC Champions Trophy opener at Dubai on Thursday.

In pursuit of 229 runs, established through a resilient 154-run partnership by Towhid Hridoy, India began strongly with a 69-run opening stand. Despite a mid-innings wobble at 144/4, Gill and KL Rahul guided India to victory.

The chase commenced with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill providing a solid foundation. Rohit struck three fours in Mustafizur Rahman's sixth over. India surpassed the 50-run mark by the eighth over through the captain's boundary.

The opening partnership ended at 69 when Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit, who scored 41 off 36 deliveries with seven fours, caught by Rishad Hossain. Virat Kohli arrived but found the spinners challenging. India reached 100 runs in 20 overs. The 42-run partnership between Kohli and Gill concluded when Rishad dismissed Kohli for 22 off 38 balls, caught by Soumya at backward point. India stood at 111/2 in 22.4 overs. Gill achieved his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in ODIs from 69 deliveries. India subsequently lost Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8), leaving them at 144/4 in 30.1 overs.

KL and Gill steadily progressed towards the target.

The 200-run mark came in 42.3 overs.

Gill completed his eighth ODI century in 125 deliveries, including nine fours and two sixes. KL finished the match with a six, as India reached 231/4. Gill remained unbeaten on 101, while KL scored 41 not out.

Rishad claimed two wickets, with Taskin and Mustafizur taking one each.

Earlier, a substantial 154-run partnership between centurion Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali helped Bangladesh recover from 35/5 to post 228 runs. The remarkable recovery by Hridoy and Jaker provided Bangladesh a competitive total. Shami excelled with five wickets.

Bangladesh's innings began poorly after winning the toss. Early wickets included Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossein Shanto for ducks. Mehidy (5), Tanzid (25), and Mushfiqur Rahim (0) fell quickly, leaving Bangladesh at 35/5. Jaker and Hridoy stabilised the innings, reaching their fifties and building a century partnership. The stand ended at 154 when Shami dismissed Jaker for 68.

Brief contributions from Rishad (18) followed, while Hridoy reached his maiden ODI century before being dismissed for 100. Shami (5/53) and Harshit (3/31) led India's bowling effort, supported by Axar's 2/43.

Before you come and play you got to be confident. As the game goes on there are different emotions that come through. But there is a lot of experience in that dressing room.
Gill and KL played really well. Very hard to say that after just one game. You play the conditions and try and think about what you do. We assessed the conditions well as a team. You are bound to be under pressure. Very happy for him, long time waiting. We know what he brings to us. We need guys like this to stand up when we need

Losing five wickets in the powerplay cost us the game. I think so. Hridoy and Jaker batted brilliantly but we still made mistakes on the field. Dropped catches and a few runouts missed, the result could have been different. Impressive batting from Hridoy against their spinners. I hope they will continue doing the same. I don't think so. If we got wickets with the new ball it could have been different.

Definitely one of my most satisfying innings I have played. When me and Rohit bhai went out there we decided not cutting the ball so I started using my feet to the fast bowlers as well. When Virat bhai came we were talking about front foot shots being difficult so we planned to play more off the back foot. The first one gave me a lot of confidence and the second one helped me get closer to my hundred so both are satisfying.

IND vs BAN LIVE Cricket Score: Rohit Sharma becomes second fastest ever to 11,000 ODI runs

Hitman Rohit Sharma on Thursday achieved a major milestone, reaching the 11,000-run mark in one-day internationals to become the second-fastest to the feat.

The skipper got to the record during India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Rohit reached the feat in his 261st innings, placing him only behind Virat Kohli, who achieved it in 222 innings. Batting great Sachin Tendulkar did the same in 276 ODI innings.

The 37-year-old needed just 12 runs to reach the feat and achieved it with a boundary off Mustafizur Rahman in the fourth over of India's chase of 229.

With the record, Rohit became the fourth Indian after Sachin, Kohli and Sourav Ganguly and 10th overall to get to 11,000-run mark

Fewest innings to 11,000 ODI runs

222 Virat Kohli
261 Rohit Sharma
276 Sachin Tendulkar

After giving India a fast start in the chase, Rohit was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed in the 10th over after cracking a breezy 36-ball 41.

IND vs BAN LIVE Cricket Score: DRINKS!

DRINKS BREAK!

The scoring rate has slightly decreased following Rohit's dismissal, yet both batsmen are effectively rotating the strike through ones and twos. Gill appears composed at the crease, capitalising on any loose deliveries.

The absence of dew thus far suggests that spinners Rishad Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz could be effective, particularly as the pitch shows signs of fatigue and reduced pace.

Nevertheless, India remains in a strong position, needing 138 runs with nine wickets intact and substantial batting resources available.

For Bangladesh to mount a challenge, they must claim multiple wickets in quick succession.

IND vs BAN LIVE Cricket Score: Virat Kohli equals ODI catches record

Virat Kohli on Thursday reached a significant milestone in One-day Internationals, equalling Mohammad Azharuddin's record for most catches for India during the Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh in Dubai.

The record-equalling moment for Kohli came in the 43rd over when he caught Jaker Ali's top-edge off Mohammed Shami's bowling at long-on.

The catch marked his 156th in the format.

Kohli and Azharuddin now share the top spot for India, ahead of Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102).

Overall, in international cricket, they rank only behind Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (218) and Australia's Ricky Ponting (160).

The match also saw Shami achieve his 200th ODI wicket, making him the fastest Indian to reach this milestone. The veteran quick surpassed Zaheer Khan to become India's leading wicket-taker in ICC white-ball tournaments (60).

Bangladesh, who found themselves reeling at 35 for 5 rode on Jaker and Towhid Hridoy (100) knocks to get to a respectable 228.

IND vs BAN LIVE Cricket Score: Shami picks 5/53 as India bowl out Bangladesh for 228

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami once again delivered on the big stage, claiming his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs as India bowled out Bangladesh for 228 in 49.4 overs in their Group A clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. On a sluggish pitch, Shami was India’s standout bowler, striking both in the powerplay and at the death to secure his fifth five-for in an ICC ODI tournament. He found solid support from debutant Harshit Rana (3/31) and Axar Patel (2/43), though the latter missed out on a hat-trick.

India’s fielding, however, was inconsistent, with some lapses allowing Bangladesh to recover from 35/5 to a competitive total, thanks to a gritty 154-run sixth-wicket stand between Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali.

Jaker fought his way to 68 off 114 balls, while Hridoy registered his maiden international century with a composed 118-ball knock, ensuring Bangladesh had something to defend.

Shami provided India’s first breakthrough, getting one to seam in and take the inside edge of Soumya Sarkar’s attempted drive, with KL Rahul completing a simple catch. Moments later, Harshit Rana struck, dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto, who failed to keep his drive down and was caught at short cover.

Despite Tanzid Hasan’s promising start, Bangladesh’s struggles continued as Mehidy Hasan Miraz slashed hard off Shami, only to be caught at first slip. Tanzid soon followed, nicking Axar Patel behind to Rahul.

Axar then struck again the very next ball, this time turning one away to find Mushfiqur Rahim’s edge, handing Rahul his third catch. Axar was on a hat-trick, but Rohit Sharma spilled a regulation catch at first slip off Jaker Ali, denying the left-arm spinner a historic moment. By the end of the first powerplay, Bangladesh were reeling at 39/5.

From there, Jaker and Hridoy showed patience and resilience, rotating the strike and capitalizing on loose deliveries. India’s fielding woes continued, with Hardik Pandya dropping Hridoy on 23 at mid-off and KL Rahul missing a stumping chance against Jaker when he was on 24.

Jaker, after a 63-ball boundary drought, broke free with a stylish on-drive off Harshit before sweeping Kuldeep Yadav for another four. He brought up his second ODI fifty in 87 balls, while Hridoy followed suit in the next over, reaching his fifty off 85 balls.

Hridoy then shifted gears, lofting and slog-sweeping Kuldeep and Jadeja for sixes, while Jaker kept the scoreboard ticking. Their partnership set a new record for the highest sixth-wicket stand in Champions Trophy history and against India in ODIs.

However, India finally broke through when Jaker toe-ended a wide slower ball from Shami to long-on, handing the veteran pacer his 200th ODI wicket. With Hridoy battling exhaustion in the Dubai heat, Rishad Hossain played a fiery cameo, smashing Axar Patel for a four and two sixes before miscuing one straight to short third off Harshit.

Shami then sent Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s stumps flying before a determined Hridoy, despite struggling with cramps, brought up his maiden ODI hundred in 114 balls with a powerful drive for four. Shami completed his five-wicket haul when Taskin Ahmed holed out to deep mid-wicket, while Harshit wrapped up the innings by getting Hridoy to top-edge a short ball to short fine leg, capping off an impressive three-wicket haul on his Champions Trophy debut.

Pacer Mohammed Shami made a sensational return to ICC tournaments, claiming a five-wicket haul as Bangladesh, powered by Towhid Hridoy’s maiden international century, recovered from a disastrous start to post 228 all out against India in their Champions Trophy opener on Thursday.

Shami also reached a personal milestone, picking up his 200th ODI wicket during the innings.

After opting to bat, Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble at 35/5, with Shami and left-arm spinner Axar Patel (2/43) causing early damage. Axar came close to a hat-trick, but India skipper Rohit Sharma dropped a straightforward chance at first slip off Jaker Ali’s bat. Ali went on to score a fighting 68 off 114 balls.

Hridoy, displaying great technique and temperament, anchored the innings alongside Ali, stitching together a crucial 154-run stand for the sixth wicket. India also missed an early chance to remove Hridoy when Hardik Pandya put down a catch at mid-off while he was on 23.

Shami achieved the milestone in 5,126 deliveries, surpassing Australian quick Mitchell Starc and several other legendary fast bowlers.

Starc, the left-arm speedster, previously held the record, reaching the landmark in 5,240 balls, followed by Pakistan's spin maestro Saqlain Mushtaq at 5,451 deliveries.

The list also includes some of the most feared bowlers in cricket history: Australian great Brett Lee (5,640 balls), New Zealand’s swing specialist Trent Boult (5,783 balls), and Pakistan’s legendary pacer Waqar Younis (5,883 balls).

Shami achieved another remarkable milestone by becoming the highest wicket-taker for India in ICC limited-overs competitions, with an impressive tally of 72 dismissals across ICC events (ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy).

The veteran speedster's record comprises 55 scalps in 18 ODI World Cup fixtures, 14 wickets across 14 T20 World Cup matches, and three dismissals from his sole Champions Trophy appearance.

Shami surpassed Zaheer Khan's milestone of 71 wickets. The former left-arm bowler had accumulated 44 wickets in 23 ODI World Cup fixtures, while securing 15 wickets across nine Champions Trophy games and claiming 12 wickets in 12 T20 World Cup encounters.

Tawhid Hridoy is experiencing severe fitness issues and has collapsed on the field in excruciating pain. After facing a back-of-length delivery pitched outside off stump, he attempted a shot towards cover whilst standing upright. The ball failed to breach the inner field, and he now requires additional medical attention from the physiotherapist.

The situation has worsened as Hridoy has fallen again, visibly distressed from a left leg cramp. The physiotherapist has rushed to his assistance immediately. The medical staff is helping Hridoy with stretching routines. With support from the physiotherapist, he manages to stand up, consumes some liquids for hydration, and takes a couple of tablets.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation, with Rohit attacking Mustafizur Rahman in the sixth over and India crossing the 50-run mark by the eighth over. The partnership ended at 69 when Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit for 41 off 36 balls, caught by Rishad Hossain.

Virat Kohli joined Gill but struggled against spin as India reached 100 in 20 overs. Kohli’s 42-run stand with Gill ended when Rishad Hossain had him caught at backward point for 22 off 38 balls.

Gill brought up his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in ODIs off 69 balls. However, quick wickets of Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8) left India at 144/4 in 30.1 overs.

Gill and KL Rahul steadied the chase, with India reaching the 200-run mark in the 43rd over. Gill then completed his eighth ODI century off 125 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes.

Rahul sealed the win in style with a six, as India finished at 231/4. Gill remained unbeaten on 101, while Rahul contributed 41* off 55 balls.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain took two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman claimed one each.
