NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken a proactive step to address the administrative issues within the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). Due to the failure of the BFI to hold elections on time, the IOA has constituted a five-member ad-hoc committee to oversee the affairs of boxing in the country.
Headed by former Athletics Federation of India (AFI) treasurer Madhukant Pathak, the ad-hoc committee has been tasked with conducting free and fair elections for the BFI at the earliest. The committee will also be responsible for the routine day-to-day administration of the BFI.
The decision to form the ad-hoc committee was prompted by numerous complaints received by the IOA from stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and concerned authorities, regarding the non-participation of Indian boxers in various important national and international events in recent months.
IOA President
PT Usha emphasized the need for immediate corrective measures to address the detrimental situation and facilitate the growth and performance of Indian boxing on the global stage.
The ad-hoc committee has been mandated to address the grievances raised by the boxing community and facilitate athlete participation in upcoming international competitions.
The committee will act in a neutral and independent manner, ensuring no conflict of interest.
All actions taken will be documented, and records will be maintained for audit and review purposes. The committee will issue the election notice and schedule as per the BFI's Constitution and current regulatory guidelines, appoint a Returning Officer and an independent
Election Observer to oversee the election process, and verify the details of all affiliated state boxing associations.
