Carnivorous birds

​Small birds that sing their songs and whistle along are loved by everyone. Their beaks, beautiful colours, and flying abilities are simply a delight. But in this group, there are some birds famous for eating meat, at times even of other birds, and here we mention some of them.

Eagles

The largest and most powerful birds of prey, Eagles have a taste for meat and carnivorous foods. With their sharp claws and hooked beaks they catch and tear apart their prey’s flesh and feast on them.

Hawks

Another bird of prey that feasts on the meat of animals are Hawks. They are known for their speed and their quick movements, and they are famous for spotting their target, swooping down instantly, grabbing them and tearing them apart.

Owls

Owls are primarily nocturnal hunters and are not often seen out during day time. And with their excellent night vision, owls hunt and catch unsuspecting prey in the dark. Mice, rats, insects, and even smaller birds become their diet.

Falcons

Another bird species that hunts and feasts on animal meat is the Falcon. They are one of the fastest animals in the world, air or land, and have the ability to catch their prey mid-air.

Vultures

While most birds hunt for food and meat, Vultures scavenge for it. Instead of catching their prey alive, vultures feast on the meat of dead animals.

Kestrels

A small falcon species that looks adorable in the sky, but is rather vicious with its prey is the Kestrel. Kestrels are small birds in themselves and thus hunt on insects, small rodents, and the likes.

Harriers

Harriers have an owl-like face, with bright eyes and round heads, and with their quick and swift movements, they attack onto the prey. They hunt certain reptiles and small mammals, and with their sharp talons rip them apart.

Secretary bird

A bird famous for stomping on snakes and killing them, the Secretary bird is also a meat eater. It hunts not by flying, but on foot, stomping and ripping its enemies and then feasting on them.

Serpent eagles

Another bird that feasts on the dangerous snakes is the Serpent eagle. They have strong legs and curved claws that help them grab and crush their prey.

Roadrunners

Evident by the name, roadrunners are fast-running birds that are usually seen in deserts. These birds hunt on the ground, catching lizards and small birds.
