Longevity and immortality is one of the few things that every human wishes to have and achieve. But unfortunately, to live beyond 80 or 90 is considered an exceptional feat today. But there are some animals that outlive humans, time and again, and here we mention some of them.

One of the most famous animals to live well beyond 100 are the Galapagos tortoises. They are one of the longest-living land animals and their slow-moving nature helps them conserve energy and slow their metabolism.

One of the most unique animals to live beyond 100 is the ocean quahog. They are a kind of clams that live deep in the oceans and the reason they live for so long is that because they reside in extreme temperatures, their growth is rather slow.

One of the most colourful and adorable fishes in the world, the Koi fish are known to outlive their owners. These fishes although have an average lifespan of about 50-70 years, in the best conditions they easily cross 150!

A unique reptile from New Zealand, the Tuatara is like a large lizard with a pre-historic look. These lizards are known for their lifespan as some of them reach well over 120 years of age.

Another wonder of the sea that outlives humans, even in their average age, is the Bowhead whale. These whales are estimated to be over 200 years old and are also slow growers living in extreme temperatures.

A relative of the Galapagos tortoise, the Aldabra tortoise is also a massive one that lives well over 100 years. It is believed that a famous Aldabra named ‘Adwaita’ lived for about 255 years.

Evident in the name, the only animal to live forever is the immortal jellyfish. It is a rather unique animal because it does not die of old age, but just reverts to its juvenile form after reaching adulthood.

An animal whose average lifespan is atleast 250 years is the Greenland shark. The greenland shark also lives in the deep, cold waters of the Arctic, and only grows about a centimeter every year which makes it reach the mature stage slowly.
