5 key takeaways from Lizzo's weight loss journey

After telling the world that she has reached her 'weight release goal,' Lizzo has now dropped pictures of her dramatic weight loss, and the internet is going gaga over it.
Lizzo has earlier shared that she lost weight quite methodically and slowly. “I don’t really see it because if anyone who’s on a natural weight-loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don’t really notice it until you notice it. Also, the scale’s not really moving. But anyway, that doesn’t matter. I’m super proud of my current lifestyle," Lizzo said in March 2024. She also denied taking Ozempic and said she rather focused on 'weight training and calorie deficit. "I’m working.. on music, myself, relationships with people and food, my anxiety, my body, my business, and my trust issues with the world.. but they are deep now, deeper than they’ve ever been," she wrote in Nov. 2023
Here are some the key takeaways from Lizzo’s weight loss journey.
Exercise to be healthy, not thin
Lizzo did not exercise to become thin. Her goal was to become the best version of herself. The singer has earlier expressed that she wants to live a healthy lifestyle and focus on her mental health. This means setting achievable weight loss goals, and not pushing too hard.
“I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything they’re doing is to be thin,” she said. “I’m not trying to be thin. I don’t ever want to be thin. Will my body fluctuate from this size? Will I get a little smaller depending on some of the choices I make or a little bigger, depending on some of the choices I make in my life. Yes, I’m used to fluctuating," she added.
Cardio, but make it functional training
People who are on a weight loss journey, often tend to incorporate a lot of cardio exercises into their weight loss. The cardio is good, but not too much. Lizzo loves jump rope workouts. But these workouts are also good functional training. This way you not only lose fat, but also build muscle strength. Lizzo has often shared videos of her jump rope workouts online and vouched that she absolutely loves them.
Consistency is the key
You won't see results in a week or two. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Lizzo has also shared that she is not looking to adhere to the conventional beauty standards with her fitness journey. “Hey. So I’ve been working out consistently for the last five years, and it may come as a surprise for some of y’all that I’m not working out to have your ideal body type. I’m working out to have my ideal body type,” she said in the video. “And you know what type that is? None of your f------ business,” she said in 2020.
Walk, walk, walk
Moving more is key to staying at your ideal weight. Lizzo incorporates cardio training by either walking outdoors or on the treadmill. But she doesn't overdo it. "So because my Pilates regimen is pretty intense, I don't go crazy on the treadmill. I just walk and I would actually prefer to walk outside, but you know. I like to walk because any stress, any anxiety, any tension, any anger that I've had in my body, I kind of forget about it by the time I'm done walking," she said in a TikTok video earlier.

Eat clean
Remember, your diet is more important than your workout regime. Lizzo has earlier revealed that she has started to eat a clean diet, which is nutritious and good for her body. She starts her day with lemon water. For breakfast, she eats egg whites, cauliflower hashbrowns, and fruits. She also has okra water. Lunch is often a chicken lettuce wrap with some mustard and homemade peach tea. Dinner is protein-rich grilled chicken, with asparagus and carrots.
Eating home-cooked foods, and adding vegetables, fruits and proteins to your diet is beneficial for both weight loss and overall health.
In Aug 2024, she posted another video and said, "I wasn’t gonna post this on IG but 2021 me would be soooo proud of 2024 me. And I’m NOT only talking about my body if yall only KNEWWWW what I’ve done for my mental & emotional health in the last year… wheeeew don’t worry imma write a album about it."
