A strong start in education and politicsAccording to media reports, Rekha Gupta, born on July 19, 1974, completed her schooling in Delhi before pursuing higher education at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. It was during her college years that she stepped into politics, joining the
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992.
As per sources, her leadership abilities quickly became evident, and by 1996, she was elected as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). This role gave her valuable experience in governance, public service, and grassroots leadership, laying the foundation for her political journey.
Family and backgroundAccording to a report presented by the Nav Bharat Times, Rekha Gupta grew up in Nandgarh village, located in Haryana's Jind district. Her grandfather, Rajendra Jindal, was a commission agent in Julana, while her father, Jai Bhagwan Jindal, worked at the State Bank of India. Her mother, Urmila Jindal, was a homemaker. In 1976, when Rekha was just two years old, her family moved to Delhi.
She is married to Manish Gupta, a businessman in the spare parts industry. The couple has two children: Nikunj Gupta, their son, who is still studying, and Harshita Gupta, their daughter, who supports her father in the business.
A big win in Shalimar BaghGupta’s recent election victory in Shalimar Bagh was remarkable. According to media sources, she won by a margin of 29,595 votes, securing a strong mandate from the people. After being named the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, she thanked the party leadership and promised to serve Delhi with honesty and dedication.
From student leader to public servantMedia reports suggest that Rekha Gupta entered mainstream politics in 2007 when she was elected as a Councillor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from Uttari Pitampura. In this role, she focused on important local issues, particularly women’s welfare, child development, and education.
Her work soon earned recognition, and from 2007 to 2009, she served as the Chairperson of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, as reported by media outlets. During this time, she played an active role in shaping policies to improve the lives of women and children in Delhi.
