Love is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and it often finds its way in the most unexpected ways. Sometimes, it even hits you—quite literally—from nowhere, leaving you utterly surprised. That’s exactly what happened to a Chinese woman whose life took an unforeseen turn after a car accident. In December 2023, she met the love of her life in the most unusual way—when a driver accidentally hit her with his car. But instead of just being a moment of misfortune, that collision set off a chain of events that led to something neither of them could have anticipated: love.
The South China Morning Post reported this unique love story and how it has taken social media by storm. At the time of the accident in December 2023, Li had been driving fast due to an emergency when he struck the young woman riding an electric bicycle. As soon as the crash happened, he rushed out of his car to check on her. Though she lay on the ground with what was later diagnosed as a broken collarbone, her first words to him were unexpectedly forgiving: “No worries.”
That moment left a deep impression on Li, who thought she was a remarkably kind person. Her parents also showed great generosity, choosing not to blame him or demand compensation. Wanting to repay their kindness, Li began visiting the woman in the hospital every day, gradually forming a bond with her. Over time, their conversations grew more personal, and just three weeks after the accident, the woman confessed her feelings for him.
At first, Li hesitated. He felt their 13-year age gap was too wide and turned her down. But she persisted, and eventually, he agreed to go watch a movie with her, joking that he at least owed her that much for knocking her down. What started as a simple outing soon turned into something more.
By September, the woman was pregnant, and in February, they made their relationship official by getting married. Despite the unexpected nature of their love story, she stood by Li through thick and thin—even refusing the 188,000-yuan (US$26,000) bride price he had prepared, knowing he was in debt. Instead, she encouraged him to invest the money into his business.
Now, Li lives with his wife’s family since their home is closer to his workplace. He has nothing but gratitude for his wife and in-laws, describing them as incredibly supportive. In a bizarre twist of fate, he also revealed that before meeting her, he had been in six car accidents within just two months—but strangely, the one that brought them together turned out to be the last.
