A popular theatre in Chennai announced the re-release of Vijay's films 'Kaththi and 'Mersal' on their screens for the weekend, and both films received better occupancy in pre-bookings. The reservations for 'Kaththi' and 'Mersal' looked better than a few new releases as fans geared up to re-watch Vijay's classic films. But the theatre management decided to postpone the re-release of 'Kaththi' and 'Mersal' for reasons unknown. Ultimately, this announcement has disappointed fans.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, 'Kaththi' features Vijay in a dual role, and the social drama sends a message on the importance of water. Samantha played the female lead, and the film had music scored by Anirudh Ravichander. 'Kaththi' was released for the 2014 Diwali, and the film was a massive hit at the box office.
Atlee's directorial 'Mersal' features Vijay in a triple role and the revenge drama is perfectly packed with twists and turns to be a commercial entertainer. 'Mersal' grossed over Rs 200 crore, while Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, and Samantha played the female leads. AR Rahman scored the music, and the film was released for the 2017 Diwali.
