Complaint filed against Thalapathy Vijay over Iftar event controversy
A complaint has been filed at the Chennai Police Commissioner's office against actor and politician Vijay, alleging that he insulted Muslims during a recent Iftar event. The Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamaat, which lodged the complaint, expressed strong disapproval over the participation of individuals unrelated to the religious observance such as drunkards and rowdies claiming it disrespected the sanctity of the occasion. They stated that the event, meant to promote goodwill, instead caused hurt to the community. Moreover, Vijay's failure to express regret over the incidents has raised concerns about his sensitivity and respect for religious sentiments.
According to News 18, the Jamaat also highlighted previous instances of poor organization, such as Vijay's first political state conference in Vikravandi, where inadequate planning led to attendees facing dehydration. Similar negligence at the Iftar event reportedly resulted in unfortunate outcomes. The Jamaat criticized Vijay's approach, accusing him of treating people disrespectfully and employing foreign security guards insensitive to local sentiments. They emphasized that legal action is necessary to prevent such incidents from recurring and clarified that their complaint is not for publicity but to uphold respect and dignity in future gatherings.
Thalapathy Vijay is currently immersed in the production of his forthcoming film, 'Jana Nayagan' (translating to 'Hero of the People'), under the direction of H. Vinoth. This project is particularly significant as it marks Vijay's 69th and final film before his anticipated transition into politics. 'Jana Nayagan' is characterized as a political action thriller, with Vijay leading a diverse ensemble cast. Pooja Hegde, reuniting with Vijay after their collaboration in 'Beast' (2022), portrays the female lead. Bollywood actor Bobby Deol takes on the role of the antagonist, making his second appearance in Tamil cinema. The film also features esteemed actors such as Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in pivotal roles.
The production of 'Jana Nayagan' has been underway across various locations, including Chennai and Payanoor. The team is committed to delivering a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences. Despite the controversy surrounding a recent Iftar event, Vijay remains actively involved in the project, aiming to make a strong cinematic impact with this film. The film boasts a talented technical crew, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music, Sathyan Sooryan handling cinematography, and Pradeep E. Ragav serving as the editor. The collaboration between Vijay and director H. Vinoth has generated significant buzz, as fans eagerly await this political action thriller. 'Jana Nayagan' is slated for release on 14 January 2026, and it is poised to be a landmark film in Vijay's illustrious career. Meanwhile, Vijay's previous outing was the action flick 'GOAT' and our official review for the film reads, "GOAT deserved better music; Yuvan Shankar Raja scores well in action and elevation sequences, but songs, including the special number with Trisha, are a big let down. Cinematography, too, is just about average as VFX has taken over in most of the outdoor locations. Endless fan moments, all mass and no solid substance makes GOAT an average watch for the film lovers, and a celebrated watch for his hard-core fans. In his 32-year-odd career and 68 films, GOAT is good, but definitely not Greatest Of All Times!"
