Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava is on track to the Rs 400 crore mark, following a strong performance at the box office, however, the film took a hit on its second Monday.
The film witnessed an impressive surge on its second weekend, scoring over Rs 100 crore, and saw its numbers decline on its second Monday. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film saw its collections drop under the Rs 20 crore mark for the first time since its release. According to the report, the film earned an estimated Rs 18.50 crore on Day 11 at the box office. With this, the film missed hitting the Rs 350 crore mark.
The film's collections now stand at an estimated Rs 345.25 crore.
Monday's drop in collections was directly related to the drop in occupancy in theatres. The report states that the movie had a Hindi occupancy rate of 23.64%.
Chhaava had a stellar first week, amassing a total collection of Rs 219.25 crore. Over its opening weekend, it saw steady growth, with collections of Rs 31 crore on February 14, Rs 37 crore on Saturday, and a peak of Rs 48.5 crore on Sunday. Despite a slight dip on Monday to Rs 24 crore, the film bounced back on Tuesday with Rs 25.25 crore. Wednesday, coinciding with Shivaji Jayanti, further boosted collections to Rs 32 crore. The week concluded with a slight decline on Thursday, adding Rs 21.5 crore to its total earnings.
It remains to be seen if the film will follow a similar trend this week with the Maha Shivratri holiday on Wednesday.
Chhaava has officially surpassed Uri: The Surgical Strike to become Kaushal’s highest-grossing film in his film career. It is also his first film to cross the Rs 300 crore mark as a lead actor. Keeping in mind the current trend and popularity of the film, it could also cross the Rs 400 crore mark during its lifetime run.
Directed by
Laxman Utekar, Chhaava boasts an ensemble cast, including
Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai,
Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb,
Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, and Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Aurangzeb’s daughter.
With its continued momentum, industry experts predict that Chhaava will set the bar high when it becomes 2025's first blockbuster.
