Shahdara is one of the 70 Assembly constituencies of Delhi. It is located in Shahdara district of Delhi under the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency and is a general category seat.
According to the 2011 census estimates quoted by the State Election Commission, this constituency has a population of 2,15,849. In the population composition, Scheduled Castes (SC) constitute 18.26 per cent whilst there is no presence of Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the area.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections for the Shahdara constituency, Ram Niwas Goel of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious with a total of 62,103 votes, constituting 49.53 per cent of the votes . He defeated Sanjay Goyal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who secured 56,809 votes (45.31 per cent). The winning margin was 5,294 votes, accounting for 4.23% of the total votes cast. This result reaffirmed the AAP's dominance in the constituency, with Ram Niwas Goel retaining his seat in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
This year, Delhiās elections are in a single phase on February 5 with results on February 8. Key candidates include Jagat Singh from Congress, Sanjay Goyal from BJP and Jitender Singh Shunty from AAP.
