BHAGALPUR: Security arrangements have been intensified in Bhagalpur in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Monday. Elite security personnel from the Special Protection Group (SPG) have taken charge of the PM's security while a dog squad with sniffer dogs has been deployed at the old airport grounds under Zero Mile police station.
On Sunday, security forces, equipped with sniffer dogs, landmine scanners and metal detectors, were seen thoroughly scanning the entire venue where the PM will address farmers and the public.
During the event, the PM will release the 19th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, benefitting farmers across the country, including 82 lakh farmers from Bihar.
Around three lakh farmers and common citizens are expected to attend the gathering in Bhagalpur. The PM will also interact with farmers from several districts, including Bhagalpur, Naugachia, Banka, Begusarai, Khagaria, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura, Kishanganj, Araria, Lakhisarai, Jamui and Munger.
According to sources, the PM may also lay the foundation for the proposed central university at Vikramshila Mahavihara in Antichak (Kahalgaon) remotely.
He is also expected to announce the commencement of air services from Bhagalpur and a Vande Bharat train between Bhagalpur and Patna, along with several other developmental projects for Bhagalpur and nearby districts.
District administration and police officials have worked tirelessly to make the PM's first visit to Bhagalpur since taking office in 2014 a success. Bhagalpur district magistrate (DM) Nawal Kishor Choudhary, SSP Hriday Kant and other senior officers inspected the meeting venue, parking arrangements and overall security measures.
Officials from various state govt departments, including the municipal corporation, PHED and the health department, have been mobilised. "Adequate arrangements for drinking water have been made," said the DM.
To accommodate attendees, massive pandals with seating arrangements for nearly 50,000 farmers have been set up. In addition to addressing the farmers, the PM will interact with NDA representatives from the region.
Meanwhile, senior NDA functionaries were seen going door-to-door across the city and various assembly segments on Sunday to invite farmers and residents to attend the event.
