SOS call from passerby helps police rescue rape survivor in Hyderabad, arrest suspects

HYDERABAD: An SOS call to the police control room, Dial 100, from a passerby informed that two persons on a scooter kidnapped a mentally challenged woman from Miyapur X roads and sped towards Bachupally.
This alert helped the cops rescue the woman and arrest the duo who kidnapped and raped her.
Miyapur police on Monday arrested the accused, I Bala Kumar, 25, and G Mahesh, 24, and sent them to judicial remand. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the woman was sleeping on the roadside at Miyapur X roads.
Immediate response to the SOS and further investigation based on leads generated helped in detecting the case, said Ch Y Srinivas, ACP Miyapur division, Cyberabad.
At 1.52 am, Friday, acting on an SOS, the Miyapur patrol team rushed to the Miyapur X roads and were informed about the crime, but they were clueless as the caller could not provide more details. The patrol staff sounded a red alert, resulting in multiple teams being deployed to search for the woman and the kidnappers.
After scanning CCTVs and verifying other clues, police finally traced the woman lying abandoned in a semi-conscious state at IDA Bollaram, around 7 km from Miyapur X roads. She was immediately shifted to a hospital, and a medical examination revealed that she was raped, said an official.
Police registered a kidnap and rape case and deployed teams from multiple wings of Cyberabad to nab the suspects. Based on technical leads and other clues, police caught them at Chandanagar on Monday.
Bala Kumar was involved in eight crimes, including robbery, and Mahesh was involved in two cases, including a murder case in the past, added the official.
