Residents protest shack subletting at Talpona beach

Canacona: On Sunday, members of Poinguinim gram sabha opposed the subletting of shacks, saying it would lead to locals losing jobs. The demand was made because some have been renting shacks at Talpona beach, which falls under the jurisdiction of Poinguinim.
Some members demanded that no project be allowed in the village without it being discussed before the villagers. The demand was made in reference to the proposed energy project. The villagers also decided to sign a memorandum and submit it to the panchayat next week.
The members questioned a construction on the hill at Opem, which has received water and power supplies. The villagers demanded that the panchayat question its approval.
The meeting was presided over by sarpanch Savita Tawadkar and attended by nearly 50 villagers.
