Panaji: Anthony Cardoz, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) driver, was arrested on Monday by Mapusa police for allegedly driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Mapusa police initiated action immediately after a video of the car being driven in a rash and negligent manner went viral on social media.
Mapusa PI Nikhil Palekar said the incident took place on Sunday at 9pm at Mapusa. He said that Cardoz came with his friends to Goa from Mumbai to visit the Old Goa church. After the India-Pakistan cricket match, while Cardoz was on his way to the hotel, he hit a parked four-wheeler, but there were no injuries to anyone.
Palekar added that Cardoz was proceeding from the national highway to Mapusa from the Peddem side when the incident occurred. “Scared after hitting the parked four-wheeler, Cardoz sped up his vehicle, which resulted in another collision with a road divider that burst the front tyre of his four-wheeler,” Palekar said, adding that Cardoz did not stop but instead drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner without the tyre.
“We have arrested Cardoz for drunken, and rash and negligent driving,” Palekar said.
