Panaji: Yet another foreigner was attacked by a pack of aggressive stray dogs, this time at Mobor beach in South Goa. The 64-year-old man from the United Kingdom sustained a bite on his thigh from stray dogs while jogging along Mobor beach on Sunday.
He was given first aid by Drishti Marine lifeguards and sent to a hospital for further treatment.
The Britisher was among the 18 others that Drishti Marine lifesavers assisted along Goa’s coastline over the weekend. This included an eight-year-old Nepali boy who walked all the way from Calangute beach to Candolim after making himself scarce from his parents.
Fourteen people were rescued from drowning off Goa’s coastline over the weekend, while four individuals required first aid after sustaining injuries on the beach. Two children were also reunited with their families by lifeguards. At Colva, a 20-year-old man from Bihar sustained a head injury after jumping into shallow water.
A 41-year-old male from Jaipur was injured and unable to walk after the banana boat he was on flipped over at Majorda beach. Drishti Marine lifeguards took him to a nearby medical facility.
At Candolim beach, lifesavers rescued an inebriated 40-year-old Tamil Nadu man from certain death. The unsteady man was seen struggling to keep his head above water off Candolim beach but was swiftly rescued by lifeguard Vikas Salgaonkar. The lifeguards administered oxygen and rushed him to the Candolim health centre.
At Baga beach, three domestic tourists from Maharashtra in their early twenties were rescued by lifesavers Chandan Giri, Sourabh Kumar, Vinod Gaonkar, and Akash Fulkar with rescue tubes and a jet ski. Another rescue played out on the same beach, where a 38-year-old male from Mysore had to be rescued after struggling against the currents.
Similarly, a trio playing frisbee in the water had to be rescued at Agonda beach. While two of the men were Goan, one was a 30-year-old from Bihar. Lifeguards repeatedly warned the three to play on the beach instead of venturing into the water, but the trio ignored the warning only to be caught in a rip current a few moments later. They were brought to shore by lifesavers Bhikash Velip and Shekhar Velip.
At Mandrem beach, a 30-year-old man from Mapusa and two women were rescued with a rescue board and a jet ski after getting pulled out to sea by strong waves. At Calangute, two men were pulled out to sea by a rip current. The 30-year-old Maharashtrian and 27-year-old Kannadiga had to be rescued.
