NEW DELHI: One person was injured in an encounter between Punjab police and two suspected weapon suppliers in Tarn Taran on Tuesday morning.

According to police officials, they had received intelligence inputs that some miscreants carrying weapons were travelling from Amritsar Rural towards Tarn Taran with the intent to supply arms. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police teams intercepted the suspects near Tarn Taran.

"We received information this morning that some miscreants are coming towards Tarn Taran from Amritsar Rural and they have weapons. They have supplied weapons earlier and today too they were on their way to supply weapons. Their names are Sukhdev Singh and Sarban Kumar. They had two weapons," said SP detective Ajay Raj Singh.
The accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh and Sarban Kumar, were reportedly in possession of two firearms.
When confronted by the police, the duo opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. The exchange of gunfire saw the suspects firing three rounds, while the police responded with two rounds.
Sukhdev Singh sustained injuries in the incident and has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. His accomplice, Sarban Kumar, has been taken into custody, and both have links with Pakistan.
"When the police stopped them, they attacked the police. They fired three rounds and police fired two rounds. Sukhdev Singh has been injured in the incident. He has been sent for treatment and further investigation is underway... They have links with Pakistan, " Ajay Raj added.
