AGRA: A 24-year-old man died while trying to rescue an injured monkey stuck in an electric transformer along Badi Parikrama Marg in Mathura's Goverdhan area on Saturday evening. The monkey, which had fallen onto the transformer, also succumbed to electrocution.
The victim, Topic, saw the monkey lying on a transformer, which was connected to an 11,000-volt power line. He climbed a railing surrounding it and attempted to rescue the monkey using a stick. However, he came into contact with the transformer and died instantly.
Ravi Ranjan Kumar, sub-divisional officer of Goverdhan, said, "Our power supply tripped when the monkey fell on the power transformer. Whenever a power line trips, we restart it to verify if it is functioning normally or not. We were not informed that a man was attempting to rescue the monkey. Our line tripped again, and when police informed us about the incident, we disconnected the power from the local substation and dispatched a report to our local headquarters in Agra."
After receiving an alert, a team from the Goverdhan police station arrived at the spot and rushed Topic to the community health centre, where doctors pronounced him dead. SHO Vinod Babu Mishra said, "We received a memo from the hospital about the incident, and an investigation was initiated. However, no complaint was lodged by the family of the deceased."
