Got a Tip?

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Director Joseph Kosinski & Jerry Bruckheimer’s UFO Conspiracy Thriller Sparks Bidding War

It feels like a lifetime ago but there had been some questions about whether audiences would embrace a “Top Gun” sequel many decades after the original. However, the combination of mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and action star Tom Cruise always felt like a winner, when director Joseph Kosinski (“TRON: Legacy,” “Oblivion”) joined the project it really kicked into gear and would go on to earn a massive $1.5 billion at the global box office.

Bruckheimer and Kosinski would go on to reunite for the upcoming Brad Pitt-led racing pic “F1,” and they’re already putting together a new package deal that has gone to auction. Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the duo is behind an untitled UFO conspiracy thriller with studio suitors trying to get their mitts on the pricey project.

The mysterious project hails from a script penned by screenwriter Zach Baylin (“King Richard,” “Creed III,” “The Order”) and is being compared to the political thriller “All The President’s Men.”

Some of those studios in the running for a heated bidding war are said to be Amazon, Apple, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and Paramount. All five have deep pockets for a high-profile deal like this, a frontrunner wasn’t named.

While the brief concept and names involved should be super-exciting, an actor isn’t currently attached but you would imagine whoever lands the UFO movie would likely want some star power involved. Yet, that is simply an assumption.

We’re going to have to be patient about this new UFO thriller coming together and getting our hands on further information. Until then, audiences will get to see Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” follow-up, “F1,” which will be released by Warner Bros. in theaters on June 25.
