A FT article has been trending about the Singapore stock market. This quote is exciting! "Another person quoted by the FT had “not seen an all-government and industry approach like this since Singapore first decided it wanted to foster a tech and venture capital industry in the late 2000s”. As investors in the private (primary) market, we would very much welcome a stronger and more vibrant Singapore equity market. Singapore and South East Asia has a robust VC (primary) market but the missing piece to complete the whole eco system is the ability for a robust equity (secondary) market. On a personal level, as a Singaporean who bought my first shares in my life in 1999 (Singtel!) and who has seen the local market struggle and fizzle off for the last decade, I really welcome a more active market. Yesterday in parliament, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Lawrence Wong was actually posed a very similar question about the local stock market. (the link is here to the article) https://lnkd.in/dGEtARw8 *While the government will continue to encourage companies incubated here to list on the SGX, Wong noted that GIC and Temasek “operate on a commercial basis and have a mandate to deliver good long-term returns for the benefit of Singapore and Singaporeans”. “They regularly engage their portfolio companies on options to create shareholder value, which may include a listing in Singapore,” he added. “However, the final listing decisions will have to be made by the companies themselves, based on their commercial objectives and growth plans.”* My take is that: Having a local stock exchange, local stocks that list on your local stock exchange as well as local investors are not mutually exclusive in this day and age. Hamilton Lane is collaborating with Alta Exchange (AltaX) and Phillip Securities Pte Ltd under the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)'s Project Guardian to enhance liquidity through tokenization. The three firms will collaborate on broadening access to the tokenized version of Hamilton Lane’s Senior Credit Opportunities (“SCOPE”) Fund. Listed on AltaX and launched in March 2023, SCOPE is a senior private credit vehicle that offers safety and yield for investors. Luke Lim, Managing Director of Phillip Securities, said the partnership represents "an exciting frontier for Phillip Securities as we continue to innovate and develop new investment products for our clients." "By combining our expertise and resources, we are able to bring cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving and diverse needs of sophisticated investors," he added. The tokenization and listing of SCOPE on AltaX marked the completion of the first strategic phase for the partnership. Its first phase enabled accredited and institutional investors to manage risk, respond to market conditions, and engage with a global trading community. Phase two aims to broaden access to private credit by exploring the potential introduction of the world’s first Shariah-compliant tokenized private credit fund, targeting the growing global Islamic funds market. Victor (Ji Woong) Jung, head of digital assets at Hamilton Lane, said, "We are focused on continuing to innovate around this offering, opening doors to investors of all types and fostering a more inclusive financial ecosystem. In our view, this collaboration is poised to have a significant impact on private credit and the broader private markets landscape."

I found interesting competing news on BangkokBiz front page today. On the left, there was a news “BoT’s governor prefer investment stimulus, not short-term boosts, while on the right “PM urged MoF for quick-win”. Quite interesting that both conflicting ideas to run the country, were put on side by side from Thailand’s top authorities. Something must probably go wrong on how to run the country in challenging sitation at this moment. Personally, PM may be right on the situation, Thailand economy on the ground(not on statistics) is not near in the vicinity of robust recovery as actual numbers led into opposite directions(export, gdp growth, personal debt, purchasing power). But focusing on super quick-win may not make the country go any further. On the contrary, the govornor may be totally wrong on the belief that country are on the path of robust recovery, but fundamental restructure surely would not make country out of its on-going suffering, not to mention chance to fundamentally changes. Is there no way to reach mutual understanding and get on on-the-ground fact to create somthing that to move the coutry further? Get the real fact, churning away from short-term only result but definitely a boost from monetary policy will never proof wrong both in short and long run? Lowering guard down on both sides will never be wrong. No-politician like me, can only thought.
