“𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐧… 𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲.” (Or maybe that’s exactly when it’s most fun.)   I met up with Ramesh Dharma over kopi. Two cybersecurity leaders, one mamak table, and a debate brewing stronger than the kopi-o kosong.   We didn’t talk about tech stacks. We didn’t talk about ransomware threats (well, not immediately). We talked about people.   Because here’s the truth:   👉 The biggest cybersecurity risk isn’t AI. 👉 It’s not the latest exploit. 👉 𝐼𝑡’𝑠 ℎ𝑢𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑒ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑟.   Phishing links don’t click themselves. Passwords don’t leak by magic. And every cybersecurity leader knows this: Building a 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 is half the battle won.   Here’s where the fun came in.   We role-played classic “user errors”: “It looked just like the CEO’s email!” “I thought the IT team needed my password.” “Wait, you mean… clicking unsubscribe isn’t always safe?”   We laughed. We cringed.   Because we’ve heard it all. But here’s what hit home for both of us:   Creating a culture where 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬? That’s how cybersecurity evolves from a box-ticking exercise… …to a 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭.   Cybersecurity isn’t just a weekend coffee topic. It’s a Monday-to-Sunday commitment to our teams.   Cybersecurity isn't a wall we build; it's a mindset we grow.   P.S. Do you like kopi-o kosong? ☕

Singapore updated its cyber security regulations, granting more power to its Cyber Security Agency (CSA) and expanding the definition of critical information infrastructure (CII) to include cloud infrastructure. The amendment requires CII operators to report cyber security incidents to the government and holds third-party and cloud providers accountable. Senior Minister Janil Puthucheary highlighted the need to adapt the 2018 Act to new technologies and business models to ensure CII remains secure. This move aligns with broader regional efforts, such as Malaysia's new Cyber Security Bill and a trilateral information-sharing agreement among Japan, the Philippines, and the US. The updated regulations, which have broad support, aim to address growing cyber threats and the evolving digital landscape. The amendment categorises businesses into five types, imposing requirements like audits and incident reporting, potentially increasing compliance costs. As Singapore remains a target for cyber attacks, the focus on cultivating a cyber-literate population and securing stakeholder buy-in is crucial for future resilience.
