How much personal information should you disclose when buying insurance? Our CEO Dennis Lun was recently interviewed by Channel C about a medical insurance claim case. A son bought a Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) policy for his father over age 60. Within a year, the father received a stage 4 brain cancer diagnosis and filed a claim. Unfortunately, the claim was denied and the policy was eventually voided, due to alleged undisclosed medical history, including back pain. Dennis emphasised the duty of "utmost good faith" in insurance. Applicants should disclose all medical history to avoid claim denials and policy voiding, even if the undisclosed condition (such as back pain) is unrelated to the claim (brain cancer). On the other hand, Dennis recommended that insurers arrange medical check-ups for older applicants before accepting the policy to minimise future disputes. Was just talking to someone about how easily someone is called an expert. So many experts in this piece. I think there’s only one among these who can speak with authority and that’s Tan Suee Chieh. He has been consistent in his opposition to the deal with clarity of thought and argument. I’m waiting for ‘experts’ who have rushed to support it without much thoughtful analysis now preparing to do Simone Biles standard backflip to support the government blocking the deal. While I’ve spoken out on several issues with the deal, the only area where I’ve really added something different was about the serious conflict of interest involving the Income Insurance chairman, and how that could taint the deal. From my experience, when there’s a serious conflict, there is almost always a problem with a transaction. "In the near future, both the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong will face the challenges posed by an aging population. “As the new academic year began in August, students at the National University of Singapore (NUS) saw an unusual number of foreign visitors on campus. Tourists crowded shuttle buses and canteens, and milled about libraries, research labs and even accommodation facilities. This was not the first time that Singapore universities had received an influx of tourists. They flocked to NUS and the Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) in February. NTU responded by imposing a fee on tourists and requiring tour groups to seek approval prior to visiting. Many Singaporeans were bewildered by the phenomenon. Why were tourists treating NUS and NTU, places for teaching and learning, as attractions? To put it simply, they look at NUS and NTU just like how many in Singapore perceive top universities such as University of Oxford and University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Tourists to NUS and NTU generally hail from China, and some told reporters that they came to show their children what Singapore campus life is like. In recent years, NUS and NTU have emerged as top universities globally, placing 8th and 15th respectively in the latest QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings. This is an attractive factor for parents and prospective students, who believe that high-ranking universities might give graduates a competitive edge in the job market. Visiting the campus in person is the best way to find out if the faculty and academic environment is suitable for them.”

Some months ago on Singapore's National Day, I shared a poem that I wrote titled "Grow". Some friends encouraged me to compose a song with this poem, knowing that I had some earlier compositions. So I decided to use AI to do so...rock version, renamed as "It's Okay". And guess what...it's completed within minutes, including full music arrangement, instrumentation and vocals - amazing! (PS: for my previous compositions, it took several months end-to-end to complete, including recording.)
