Your B2B guide towards sustainability: best practices, suppliers, resources, networking and experience sharing.

About us

The Matcha Initiative helps individuals in their professional lives to shift from an unsustainable “business as usual” towards a more conscious and active preparation for a better future. To be resilient and competitive in the long run, businesses have to integrate sustainability in their daily operations. Why? Because more and more people (partners, customers, employees, institutions) ask for responsible actions and both adaptation and mitigation measures are needed. The sooner you will start, the easier it will be. We believe that there is a huge potential for education, innovation and impact with businesses. We are also aware that driving change may be difficult for various reasons: lack of know-how, of budget, of time, of strategy… Our website is a one-stop tool to kickstart your journey towards sustainability. it provides sustainable best practices and solutions, sustainable suppliers, "buddies"-peers who accepted to share their own experience, resources to educate on sustainability and useful tools. The Matcha Initiative also provides talks, workshops, training, public masterclasses, and a monthly evening to bring the community together. The Matcha Initiative is a ground-up initiative created in Singapore, by a group of hands-on individuals who couldn’t witness the consequences of their actions on the planet and do nothing about it. Our members come from different walks of life. We are citizens, entrepreneurs, professionals, parents, change-makers. We believe collaboration is key to any change. We aim to build an ecosystem to create business & network opportunities, inspire more companies by sharing best practices, connect people and organisations and educate professionals. Together we are stronger: join the community of solution providers and experts. We happily discuss with Institutions, Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Universities, Startups, MNCs… Feel free to reach out to us at team[at]thematchainitiative[dot]com

  • A 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 to everyone who attended 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞'𝐬 February event on Tuesday about 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞: 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞! ✨ The evening featured an insightful presentation to 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐤 𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 related to 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, before breaking out into facilitated discussions related to different Use Phases of circularity: 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐮𝐬𝐞. This session brought to light key insights: 💭 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬 As individuals, we need to take a step back and reassess our need for ‘new’. Instead of the linear take-make-waste model of consumption, consumers need to consider how to 𝐦𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 they own. While consumerism has been a dominant economic structure for many decades (and even centuries), there must be a recognition of the ‘ceiling’ of 𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. 🏢 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 At the same time, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥) 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 and recognise how their 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 to make circularity a reality and to prevent waste and carbon emissions. 🏗️ 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 There must also be a concerted effort across public and private sectors to 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, without which a shift away from the linear economy is impossible. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 into technology and equipment are essential to making our economy more circular. Moreover, communication strategies must be designed to activate the public to utilise said infrastructure. 🌟 A huge thank you to our Do-gooder Maya Madhusoodan for co-organising and leading the this event, and to our participants for your engaging discussions! Not to mention our appreciation for our facilitators and experts who volunteered their expertise and time Ivona Balint-Kowalczyk Helena B. • Last Friday, we had the privilege of hosting an insightful 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒔𝒌 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒑, where we explored the critical risks climate change poses to businesses and the strategies needed to build long-term resilience. Led by industry expert Zuzana Dzurillova, SCR Dzurillova (Director, TAMOTSU INSTITUTE), this session brought to light key insights on climate preparedness and decision-making. Here are the key takeaways: 🌍𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 Board members and decision-makers must proactively 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 on climate-related risks. Studies show that companies actively managing climate risks enhance their valuations, while those neglecting them face market penalties. As climate regulations tighten globally, business leaders 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝. 🏢 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 Sustainability cannot be an afterthought—it must be 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲. Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) should be part of executive decision-making to ensure that businesses align with global trends. 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 90% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐭-𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, companies that embed sustainability into their governance will lead the way. 📉 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 The financial implications of climate change are 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. 𝐈𝐧 2024 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 $320 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬. Businesses must prioritize climate risk assessments, integrate them into financial planning, and 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 to remain resilient in the long run. 🌟 A huge thank you to Zuzana Dzurillova, SCR for leading such a thought-provoking session, and to our participants for your engaging discussions! And a shoutout to our host PALO IT for having us at your venue! #ClimateRisk #Sustainability #BusinessResilience #Leadership #CorporateStrategy

**Excited to announce a new chapter in Bangkok!** 🇹🇭✨ After an incredible journey in Singapore, it's time for my next adventure. I'm deeply grateful to have a supportive and adventurous husband who made our move from Hong Kong 3 years ago seamless and full of joy. Singapore has been an impressive and diverse country to call home. I've had the honor of experiencing a nation managed by its brightest and best. Good governance and well-run government are so essential and critical to sustainable development. Special thanks to Jennifer Gootman for having faith in me and hired me to revamp the social/people pillar of Williams-Sonoma’s sustainability program. Transitioning from an apparel background to the furniture industry has been another growth opportunity for me. The supply chain is so different and I got to truly experience the ease in driving social impact with long-term suppliers. I'm immensely proud of my brilliant team for achieving our 2025 goals a year early and modernizing our social compliance policy and program. We introduced now-common practices such as whistleblower SOPs and responsible recruitment policies and measures, all with flying colors. A heartfelt thank you to the Singapore sustainability community for welcoming me with open arms and allowing me to share my insights in various classes on all things S of ESG. Though I'm moving to Bangkok, I'm just a Zoom call away. Let's stay connected! 🌏💻 I am excited for my new role and the opportunities to forge new partnerships in another industry!

  • "We all have talents... [And] We all have a certain autonomy in our work, to use those talents towards sustainability." 🌿 As we head steadfast into another tumultuous year, these words by our operational lead Anne Langourieux couldn't be more true. Watch her full TEDxESSECAsiaPacific talk below, where she shares takeaways from AlterCOP. While we've wrapped up our flagship event AlterCOP last week, it's important not to leave the essential learnings from the conference discussions behind. Moving forward, the key takeaways of AlterCOP 29 will remain relevant even in the road towards COP 30: 📌 Unsilo: Organisations need to work together and across departments to find and implement solutions in sustainability, identifying areas of intersectionality and how to best collaborate and partner up. 📌Finance: More than ever, global financial institutions need to come together and fill in the funding gap for the development of technology, and implementation of solutions in regions that need it the most. 📌Collective Action: Instead of passing the blame, we need to recognise that all of us have a part to play, and have an impact in the world we live in. As we announced last week, this year, we want to make it known that despite global turmoil and anxiety, there are real solutions underway, which is why this year's AlterCOP is all about 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆, 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕 🤩 We'll see you there 😉 To join us in our journey, check out the AlterCOP 30 deck 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRnxrWRF or visit us at www.altercop.com For the full AlterCOP 29 insights, watch the Tedx talk 👉 https://lnkd.in/gkKHvE9u
