🤰Lifestyle habits post-pregnancy that could save your heart🫀 🏃♀️New findings from #NUSMedicine and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health show that a history of gestational diabetes does not have to lead to heart disease. Women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (#GDM) who adopted five simple lifestyle habits, such as regular exercise and healthy diet, saw up to an 86% reduction in cardiovascular disease risk.💚📉 💪Impressively, no cardiovascular events were observed among women who consistently followed all five habits over nearly 28 years. This research is a timely reminder: small, sustained changes can have lifelong impacts.🌈🤸 📍Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g2u9nYPy #NUS #GestationalDiabetes #Pregnancy #WomensHealth #Postpartum #HeartDisease #CardiovascularHealth #CardiovascularDisease #CVD #HeartHealth #Lifestyle #HealthyLongevity

💪🫀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀: 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟴𝟲% 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 Groundbreaking research led by Dr Jiaxi Yang and colleagues at the Global Centre for Asian Women's Health (GloW), NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health shows that women with a history of gestational diabetes (GDM) can reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease up to 86% - simply through sustained, healthy lifestyle choices. ✅ Maintaining a healthy weight ✅ Staying physically active ✅ Eating a high-quality diet ✅ Not smoking Over a 28-year follow-up, women who consistently practiced all five behaviors had no cardiovascular events – a powerful reminder that prevention works. Those who improved these lifestyle behaviors had reduced risk of cardiovascular events – it is never too late to make a change! As rates of chronic disease rise across Asia, this study underscores the urgent need to scale up preventive care and lifestyle-based interventions. 🧠🧑⚕️ In response, NUS Medicine has launched the first-of-its-kind 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 - designed to equip healthcare professionals with evidence-based skills to drive this critical shift toward healthier, longer lives. 🌱 Learn more about the MSc programme here: https://lnkd.in/gCDC4Pmc 📖 Read more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/ga-nek5D #PublicHealth #PreventiveMedicine #CardiovascularHealth #LifestyleMedicine #NUSMedicine #HarvardChan #Nutrition #GestationalDiabetes #HealthyAging #WomensHealth

𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙧𝙤-𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙧-𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙩 New publication in 𝘉𝘔𝘊 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦: Our latest study of 14,674 women found that 𝗽𝗿𝗼-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 are linked to a 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘀 (𝗚𝗗𝗠). 🛑 This highlights that 𝗽𝗿𝗲-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁 and 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 during reproductive age are 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 — it’s not enough to wait until pregnancy to make changes. 🔍 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: Women whose pre-pregnancy diets were high in red and processed meats, nonfatty fish, sugar-sweetened beverages, and refined grains - but low in green leafy vegetables and coffee - had a significantly higher risk of developing GDM. These findings underscore the importance of pre-pregnancy dietary interventions that target inflammation and insulin response to reduce the risk of GDM. 👩🔬 Led by Dr. Peipei Liu, Research Fellow at the Global Centre for Asian Women's Health (GloW) and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, under the supervision of Prof. Cuilin Zhang MD, MPH, PhD.
