IN-DEPTH with PTC’s COO Mike DeTullio and Professor Johan Stahre. Who will be employed in your company in 2030? Who are your customers? Johan Stahre, head of the production systems division at Chalmers Institute of Technology, asked the questions from the stage during PTC's event, CXO Summit, in Stockholm, Sweden. They may sound a little secondary in the usual PLM context, but if you drill deeper, the answers contain serious issues in a time when technological and social development is challenging the industrial world like never before. Not least in the light of things like AI, intelligent product development, manufacturing automation, product-as-a-service concepts, and global security problems with disrupted distribution chains. The dynamics are powerful and it’s not a bad idea to look up not only to the technological horizon, but equally to the societal, social and demographic horizons: How are social trends changing businesses? Can our production systems meet sustainability requirements? Can we fill competence needs? How does this affect PLM and product realization systems? And how do we meet the demographic development with an ever-smaller number of active workers who have to support an aging population? The questions are many, difficult, and the interaction between them means ending up in tough, balancing trade-offs. Therefore, definitive answers are hard to deliver, but, as professor Stahre emphasized during his keynote, "by discussing developments based on known facts, we gain a more secure foundation to stand on in the navigation of the future journey." Wise words of course and for these reasons among others, it was a highly important event - moderated by PTC's Erling Kvalheim, head of EMEA North, and Filip Stål, Nordics VP/MD - offered from the stage in Stockholm, with an audience from major PTC users like Volvo, Vestas, Electrolux Professional and Atlas Copco on site. In today’s article we will also meet, PTC's COO, Mike DiTullio, who discussed around the theme, "Transforming the Complexity of Product Lifecycle Processes." And transformed they have been, for example in 2011 it was predicted that software would eat the world. "In 2024, software has already eaten the world," DiTullio said, noting that the dramatic transformation is well illustrated by the more than 150 million lines of code in today’s cars. DiTullio also addressed several other trending factors complicating product realization: “AI is everywhere. Software, electricity and electronics have become dominant product features. At the same time, quality and regulatory issues have come into focus, while industrial engineering step by step will be put in the hands of a non-documenting Google generation. This parallels the fact that sustainability issues are existential challenges. Bottom line: We’re at a tipping point and the question is: do we have the right PLM setup to handle the effects of the market pressures?” Click on the headline to read the article on PLM&ERP News.

EFESO Nordics
Why Industrial AI Solutions Will Produce the Best ROI for Operational Improvements in 2025 In 2025, the competitive edge for operational improvements lies in Industrial AI solutions. As we at EFESO Nordics have witnessed firsthand, these innovations are reshaping industries, delivering exponential value creation when implemented with structured scaling and a commitment to change. ✨ What makes Industrial AI so transformative? It’s not just automation - it's about creating systems that continuously learn, adapt, and optimize. By integrating advanced algorithms with core processes, companies can address operational challenges with precision and agility. Key drivers for success: 1️⃣ Robust OPEX Systems to anchor AI integration. 2️⃣ High-Quality Data to power insights and predictions. 3️⃣ Willingness to Experiment, fostering a culture of iterative improvement. 👥 Success isn’t about technology alone - it’s about people. A holistic approach that engages the entire organization, from operators to decision-makers, is critical. Pair this with upskilling through "learning by doing", and you embed AI capabilities into your DNA. 📈 The payoff? From predictive maintenance and enhanced S&OP to zero-defect quality control, the results speak for themselves. The vision is clear: a zero-loss future, where inefficiencies, waste, and errors are systematically eliminated. 🚀 Ready to explore the possibilities? The last 12 months my professional life has mostly been about investigating by doing with our customers the potential of Industrial AI solutions in the manufacturing industries, here are some thoughts and learnings from that period. We have found that deploying AI into organization's core processes is actually the best short term business case in this whole revolution that we are witnessing, and I cant wait to see how this develops in 2025. In the Nordics this is actually essential for our manufacturing industries to stay competitive. If you need help in asessing use case potential, upskilling your leadership and organization through our immersion programs, developing POCs or scaling current pilots please dont hesitate to reach out. 🌐 Choosing the right industrial router can seem complex, but it doesn't have to be! 🛠️ Hampus Fors, Account Manager at Factory Automation for SCN, shares some valuable insights: 1️⃣ Consider the router's purpose: IoT devices, remote control, or secure data communication. 2️⃣ Evaluate the type of connection needed: 4G/5G, ethernet, or Wi-Fi. 3️⃣ Think about the operating environment: should it withstand dust, vibrations, or extreme temperatures? 4️⃣ Prioritize security: assess needs for VPN, firewalls, or other protective features. 5️⃣ Plan for the future: ensure the solution is flexible and scalable for handling more devices or integrating with other systems. How can artificial intelligence make public services smarter, faster, and more equitable? 🤖 Denmark’s Municipality of Gladsaxe Kommune offers a compelling example. Their recent use of AI includes “GladGPT,” an internal chatbot helping municipal employees save time by finding information, drafting text, and improving efficiency. While early AI projects in Gladsaxe faced challenges over ethics and transparency, today’s initiatives show how thoughtful design and governance can turn AI into a powerful tool for better public service. This transformation is part of a broader vision for how municipalities can leverage AI in the future: 🏙️ Smarter city management: Predicting and addressing issues like waste collection and traffic congestion. 🛡️ Enhanced citizen protection: Using data ethically to identify and support at-risk individuals. 📈 Efficient resource allocation: Optimizing staffing, infrastructure, and public service delivery based on AI-driven insights. To realize this vision, the new report, co-authored by CBS Professor MSO Rony Medaglia and the European Commission Joint Research Centre, outlines which critical investments municipalities must make to succeed: ⚖️ Training workers in ethical AI use to ensure decisions are fair, transparent, and bias-free. 🛠️ Developing technical skills like algorithm training and data governance to design better AI solutions. 🤝 Recruiting interdisciplinary talent to manage AI from both technical and ethical perspectives. With these steps, municipalities like Gladsaxe can ensure AI benefits everyone by making public services more effective, equitable, and forward-thinking. Read how the report can guide the future of AI in public governance here:

Minna Salo presenting a teaser of recommendations to cities and the public sector from VTT’s AIMO (Innovative Air Mobility as Operator Business) project in the urban air mobility seminar organized by our partners Forum Virium Helsinki and Innoavia. AIMO is co-creation by 7 Finnish cities and 8 other stakeholders in different parts of the future air mobility value network. New business opportunities in logistics, initially parcels prior to people. In safety, surveillance, surveying and even to future metaverse service providers, think of real time digital twins of the built environment. Delivered sustainably, carbon neutrally and widely accepted by the society, generating productivity and exciting future careers. Key enabler is emergence of drone fleet operators, able to provide a multi-purpose flying platform in large scale under service contracts. Think also of remote pilot-as-a-service business, ground operations delivery, automation and data platforms to enable multi-purpose tasking to the fleets. Surprising new players will enter this business along with the usual suspects. Stay tuned for more detailed results after the summer break or get in touch with us at any time.

Very interesting report and I fully agree with Sebastian Magier conclusions. From an holistic perspective, the Polish IT sector has characteristics that perfectly suit the needs of Swedish companies. Why Swedish businesses do not benefit more from using Polish providers of IT services is often not about the benefit of what they offer, but about a lack of brand awareness and trust.
