🌊 Keeping our wind farms safe, from hundreds of miles away 🌊 At the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm we’ve teamed up with Fugro to use sailing drones, operated remotely from Aberdeen in Scotland, to transform the way we carry out maintenance inspections. 🚢 These drones reduce the need for divers and manned vessels, minimizing safety risks for our team. 🚢 Emitting 95% less CO2 compared to manned vessels, the drones mean maintenance of our wind turbines has less impact on the environment. 🚢 Equipped with advanced sensors, sonar, and high-definition cameras, they provide real-time data and operate 24/7, ensuring quicker inspections and fewer unexpected failures. On the last day of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, HYBRIT received the “Moving Force in Business” Award. “It’s a true honour to have HYBRITs approach celebrated by the GAEA Awards at the World Economic Forum. When SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall started this collaboration in 2016 we firmly believed that we could succeed. Both because it’s one of our business models for the future and has the potential to take out carbon dioxide emissions in an industry that accounts for 7% of CO2 emissions. Our colleagues have succeeded in delivering a product with superior qualities, proven process, delivered on time, on budget and managed to sell out the fossil free steel from the pilot plant. HYBRIT is a true collaboration across industries and value chains. This is something that we have a lot of experience from in Sweden, as a small country collaboration is necessary to be competitive. It is especially encouraging to receive this award now that we are taking the steps towards industrial scale – because with that the road to fossil free steel is open”, were some of CEO Anna Borg's remarks on stage. “The energy transition is not just a technological challenge; it is a financial one. We must mobilize and channel investments and forge partnerships across regions and sectors”, states Vattenfall´s CEO Anna Borg in this new paper by the Electricity Community of the World Economic Forum. In the report perspectives from the whole electricity value chain and across regions are brought together, on how to facilitate and accelerate investments in the energy transition. “Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are a prime example of how industry can collaborate to drive progress, while governments play a crucial role in de-risking through guarantees and maintaining a policy predictability that investments into long-term assets require”, says Anna.
