“Women came out from the shadows of the home to work in the market and make their families and themselves better off. They then went the distance as their employment elongated through their lifetimes to have more meaningful work and even real careers.” In her 2023 prize lecture, economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin explained the key drivers of gender differences in the labour market and discussed labour market participation through the centuries. Her research has revealed the causes of change and the main sources of the remaining gender gap. "Literature, most of all the novel, teaches us empathy and appeals to our empathy. How else could we understand the motivation of the central characters? Here we have a unique opportunity to get away from ourselves, to become someone else for a while and to look at the world through their eyes." In a recent interview, Olga Tokarczuk credits literature for her fascination with psychology. She worked as a psychologist before her literary career although she admits that theory interested her more than working with people. Can one class have two future Nobel Prize laureates? Yes, it can - scientists Richard Kuhn and Wolfgang Pauli were schoolmates for eight years. Kuhn was awarded the 1938 chemistry prize and Pauli was awarded the 1945 physics prize.
