Are you looking for a job with relocation? This one mistake can cost an interview: You forgot to mention in the CV that you are open to relocation. Let me tell you why this is important. Let's say there's a process for a Unity Developer in Berlin. The ad clearly states that it's Berlin, and the work is hybrid. You apply, and there's info you're from another country. There's no information that you are ready to relocate. And there are 20-30 other applicants. (If we're talking small numbers). Possible outcomes: 1) The recruiter contacts you to ask if you want to relocate. If your profile seems like a match, it's likely to happen. If it's 50/50 and they have other people in the pipeline, they might move on to the other ones first, find someone local or with proper info, and simply not return. 2) The recruiter assumes you haven't read the ad and just auto-rejects. Neither is great for you, honestly. So, just be precise. If you're open to relocation, mention it in the CV. As always - don't leave room for assumption. You got this 💪

She got a job because someone shared her post. A colleague of mine Maja Kryżan just started a new role and she wasn't even applying for it. The company found her because someone shared her "open to work" post. The post was ok. Nothing extraordinary, but way better than the usual "Dear network, I am open for work" type of thing. What she did right: => Started with a precise indication of her experience, skills and achievements. 3 bullet points, a sneak peek of what she could do for the organisation. => Wrote it in her way, and used her language, which made the entire thing better to read. => Left a clear indicator of how to contact her via LinkedIn or email. => Built her network ahead of time. Stats? Nearly 12 000 views 182 likes 16 comments 37 shares And her network has less than 1000 folks. A lot? Not really. Enough? Certainly. She got a job after all. So build your networks when you don't need it folks and take a couple of minutes more to write those "open-to-work posts".

A European employment report has been released from ingamejob.com regarding 2024's #gamesindustry. Here are my key takeaways and comments... 1. 15% WERE LAID OFF AND HAVE FOUND A NEW JOB IN 2023-2024, WITH 5% STILL SEARCHING. I have done my own extensive research into layoffs, and we're globally in 2024 at least 15,000, with 12% of reports having unconfirmed numbers, meaning we could be 20,000 than we dare imagine. I'm glad the majority are finding their way back in to the industry, but some are leaving it for good, and it's getting more and more competitive with less jobs being advertised YoY. 2. PROFESSIONAL BURNOUT, UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT, AND POOR WORK-LIFE BALANCE ARE THE TOP 3 ISSUES RESPONDENTS EXPERIENCE AT THEIR CURRENT WORKPLACE. Of course, the industry is associated with crunch, which in my opinion is a causality for poor management decisions towards game title releases, which only goes to punish the people developing. So it's no wonder those 3 reasons are top of the list. That being said, there is a contradiction in the report, where Net Promotor Scores indicate a satisfaction increase in overtime. This is potentially down to feeling more secure in your job. 3. MOST WANTED EMPLOYERS: CD PROJEKT RED , Larian Studios , Activision Blizzard , Supercell , Rockstar Games , Riot Games , Ubisoft. It's great to see that these powerhouses of gaming are still desired by developers wanting to make the biggest games out there. ✨𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐕 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭 *𝐥𝐚𝐲* 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧! ✨ Since we recovered from the Game Industry Conference, it’s time to bring the final episode of the series! We’ve covered all the essential CV sections, but what about the overall layout? Should you go for a specific style or keep it minimal? Are there any golden rules that apply to all CVs? 🥇 Well, the answer is … IT DEPENDS. While there are no strict rules, there are myths around that worth debunking 🤔 📃 Forget the one-page rule It’s a myth that is still alive among people. Just imagine being an expert in your field and having some non-skippers in your experience, but you have to cram it into only one page. You shrink fonts and sections just to fit that one page, making your CV unreadable and unappealing.   It’s understandable that when you gain experience and skills, but also do extra stuff related to the industry, your CV will lengthen. It’s totally ok! However, remember that you should verify if the content put in your resume is still relevant. That matter was a part of my previous post regarding the experience section. 🖼️ What about the aesthetic? Honestly? It’s not as important as you may think. Many people, even in creative jobs, are using their LinkedIn profile in a .pdf file. As you know, they're quite minimalistic and may not fit the ones seen online, BUT they win with the readability and clearness. If you want to add your own flair to it, it’s good to look at the structure of what LinkedIn generates - it’s a good starting point! Sure, a well-designed resume can catch an eye, but don’t do too much - CVs with many colors and images can be unreadable and distract from the whole goal of the CV, which is to be 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. That can especially occur when you use striking colors or rich graphics - you can go overboard with the amount of extra stuff and, at the end, get the worse result. The safest bet is to do something clean and readable, with some air on pages and a few colorful accents 🎨 📏Does section order matter? CV is your card, so benefit from that - even with the layout! Generally, it’s good to showcase the most important things first, like a brief intro or the experience. However, it's different when you are changing industries. Then, besides the introduction, it’s good to show your education, skills and maybe showcase a valued certificate in your field. 📚Don’t forget the GDPR clause! If you’re applying to a EU-based company, put the GDPR clause at the end of the CV. You give consent to processing the data and then the recruiter is allowed to message you if you shared your resume online. Celebrating two years at YAGER. Today marks a significant milestone in my professional journey. At YAGER I have transformed my professional journey in gaming. Even though I have been working within the gaming industry for around ten+ years, only in the last two of them I was able to deep dive in AAA game development. I never thought how awesome would be to learn more on how actually games are made rather than overseeing Publishing and Esports operations mainly. I’m super grateful to be part of #teamyager, a passionate team that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of video games. Also reflecting on these past two years, I thought of sharing a couple of insights I had: Build Trust as Your First Goal 🤝 Trust is the ground of any successful team. Establishing trust creates a foundation for open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect. It's not just about delivering results but also about being reliable, honest, and supportive. Avoid the Fixed Mindset Trap 💡 It’s easy to fall into the comfort zone of a fixed mindset, where you believe your abilities are static. However, embracing a growth mindset has been key to my development here. It’s about seeing challenges as opportunities to learn, being open to feedback, and constantly pushing your boundaries. The Act of Planning is Crucial 📅 While achieving every part of a plan is important, the act of planning itself holds even greater value. It allows you to think critically, anticipate challenges, and adapt to changes. A good plan provides direction, but the flexibility to pivot and learn from the process is where the real growth happens. Stop talking shit to yourself. It's time to control negative self-talk. I recently had a candidate who has everything going for him on paper. He has relevant skills, good experience in the industry, and successful projects in his CV. He told me he performs badly in interviews. I was surprised because the conversation with him was really pleasant and mostly to the point. The real issue? His inner dialogue. He was speaking to me. But what he really was doing, was talking to himself: "I often mess up and mix things during interviews." "I perform badly at interviews." "Patryk, I fail at interviews." This negative self-talk became a self-fulfilling prophecy. His anxiety showed in interviews. He stumbled over answers he knew by heart (he really was prepared). I understood him perfectly. Talking shit to myself is something I am battling with a lot. So, how to stop negative self-talk? 1) Reality check Ask yourself "Have I succeeded in similar situations before?" If this isn't your 1st job you probably did. After all, you got the job. 2) Reframe the narrative Sure, you might not know everything or have all the answers. But it's a possibility to present your unique experience and perspective. Sometimes it will be enough, sometimes it won't. 3) Stranger test This is something I practice a lot. Whenever you are talking badly to yourself ask "Would I say something like that to a stranger or a friend?" 99% of the time I wouldn't. 4) Evidence-Based confidence Collect and compile a list of positive feedbacks you've got, achievements, wins - anything that shows you the exact opposite of being a failure. Use it whenever you feel like you're too harsh on yourself. Your internal narrative shapes your external reality. Good luck out there and remember - you're awesome.

Hello gamedev folks! Here's the topic for today: Raising women's salary expectations will help close the gender pay gap Encouraging women to request higher pay — and not just to match the salaries of their male counterparts — could be the key to closing the gender pay gap. That's according to Tanja Loktionova, founder of VALUES VALUE: Recruitment for Game Development Industry, who presented the findings of the recruitment agency's annual salary survey at devcom. During her session, she showed that not only do women earn less than men in almost every discipline within the games industry, but they also expect less when asked what salary they believe would be fair. "The gender pay gap exists," she told attendees. "And it has always existed." "We need to turn on the light. When it's seen in the open, it will be much harder to maintain in the way that it has historically continued to go on in the games industry. And it's not just this industry for this gender pay gap." The survey was based on responses from 1,832 developers around the world, with the majority of responses coming from Europe, including non-EU countries such as the UK. Serbian Games Association has released a new report for 2023. What's particularly pleasing is that the industry is growing! Here are some highlights: - Total revenue exceeds 175 million euros; 150 in 2022 - The number of employees has doubled - from 1700 to 3400 - One of the reasons for the increase in the number of employees is a large number of gaming professionals and their families from Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus moved to Serbia last year - The number of studios, however, has not increased significantly - from 140 in 2022 to 150 in 2023 Link to the full report in the comments. #SGA #GameDevIndustry #Games #Gaming #GamesReport

Hello, gamedev folks! Today I want to share with you some material on the following matter: What's happening in the job market now? How have companies' hiring approaches changed? How have candidates' negotiation strategies evolved when seeking employment? What should we expect from the job market in the future? As for companies' hiring approaches, they continue to set high standards and expect finalists to meet those requirements 100%, all while keeping salary expectations reasonable. It feels like companies are leaving less room for compromise — for example, considering candidates with potential who might need time to build missing skills. Employers seem less willing to provide a ramp-up period, expecting new hires to hit the ground running and deliver results immediately. Candidates, in turn, are concerned about the stability of potential employers: they want to know about flagship projects in the company's portfolio, what's already generating profit, or if there are investments from venture funds or other sources that indicate the company isn't likely to shut down overnight. These guarantees are now a key focus for candidates.
