For those of us 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 the EU—like #UK, #Serbia & the #WesternBalkans’ thriving tech scenes—this pivot raises key questions: 1. 𝗘𝗨’𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 • Scrapping the AI Liability Directive highlights #Europe’s challenges in finalizing complex regulations. Even within the EU, uncertainty persists over how strict or flexible AI laws should be. 2. 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 • At #Munich, #Vance called EU tech fines “tariffs” and labeled some laws “Soviet censorship,” warning that Europe’s AI stance could “strangle innovation.” This resonates with smaller economies reliant on agility to compete globally. 3. 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗘𝗨 𝗛𝘂𝗯𝘀: 𝗔 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 • 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿-𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: No need to copy EU frameworks that the EU itself might abandon. • 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: The U.S. seems eager to partner with growth-friendly jurisdictions; the Western Balkans can offer fewer barriers and attract fresh investment. • 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲: Recent talks with the U.S. spotlight our push for business-friendly cooperation—potentially a real advantage if we #stay #proinnovation (Vuk Velebit & Pupin Initiative · Пупин Иницијатива). 4. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 • The EU’s goals are admirable, but the process can be messy. The main lesson: 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺.
