GRC – Research Group in Regulation of Lipid Metabolism in obesity and diabetes
The Neurolipid Group studies lipid metabolism and signalling in the nervous system.
The brain is one of the tissues with significant lipid content. However, neurons do not usually use lipids as fuel for energy, which suggests that brain lipids have important structural and signalling functions. Our specific focus is the role that brain-specific carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1C (CPT1C) plays in neuronal lipid metabolism and its involvement in cognition, motor function and regulation of food intake and energy homeostasis.
