Microsoft is set to open two new AI centers in Abu Dhabi, advancing its global AI strategy. In the Middle East, the potential benefit of the public cloud is huge. McKinsey analysis of more than 700 use cases facilitated by the public cloud and applied across 600 companies and the public sector in the Middle East suggests it could generate value of as much as $183 billion by 2030—the equivalent of roughly 6 percent of the region’s current GDP (see sidebar, “Methodology”).

In another boost for AI enablement, Microsoft, BlackRock and Abu Dhabi based MGX are raising $30 Bn to invest in AI Data centers and associated power equipment, while raising additional investments to reach $100 Bn (including debt). Data Centre capex for 2023 globally is estimated between $225-$260 Bn (as reported by different analysts) with around 40% investments coming from Hyperscalers alone. This consortium appears to be a first with a prominent UAE-based founding member—MGX, which includes Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala and AI firm G42 as its founding partners. This initiative could further advance AI-related developments in the MENA region.

This initiative is designed to understand the complex nuances of the Arabic language and generate culturally relevant content. Fanar supports the development of advanced linguistic models, enriching digital experiences for Arabic speakers and aiding in various applications, including translation and media research.
