He hates his job and he hates his boss, but he has a such compliant and weak nature. As Melville's "Bartebly the scrivener", Edward answers to every request: "I would prefer not to". He leads a miserable life with his unfaithful and repressive wife and he is often victim of his colleague's jokes. But one night, at the end of his darkest day, Edward is attacked by a mugger who leaves him in a park senseless and injured on the back of his head. A mysterious and beautiful woman named Calypso, who looks exactly like his wife, help and assist him. After this experience, Edwards desires to meet her again, but the bump on the back of his head starts to talk. He calls himself Janus and he looks like a smaller twin face of Edward. Janus has the opposite personality of Edward: he is free, limitless without any inhibition, determined and cruel. Janus lets Edward take his paybacks and his revenges.
