El Centro, Cal: Cotton industry of southern California finds an increase in volume since the war. Rockland, Me: Naval officers put U.S.S. Nevada through first official tests. The Nevada proves herself swiftest of U.S. Navy. Deer Island, Mass: Guards of the House of Correction organize an efficient fire department to protect 1,500 prisoners. San Francisco: The steamer China leaves for the Orient. Being controlled by a Chinese corporation, it gives many Chinese who boycotted other lines, opportunity to go home. Palo Alto, Cal: Prominent society women take part in bazaar in open air to raise money for sufferers from the European war. Little Belgian children assist. The famous German submarine U-29, commanded by Lieut. Otto Weddingen, leaves on fatal trip. A short time after departure wreckage of the U-29 was washed ashore near Christiana, Norway. Only motion pictures of a German submarine or commander ever shown in America. Also pictures of the bombardment and destruction of a Turkish fort. In the Caucasus Mountains: Long camel trains transport the Russians over the mountains. The soldiers toil through the narrow passes and over the steep roadways. With the Russian Fleet in Black Sea: Turkish man-of-war is set on fire by a shell from a Russian destroyer. Russian Black Sea Fleet bombards Turkish fortress and batteries.
