Astri was born in 1898, the daughter of court art caster Herman Bergman and his wife Mélen. She grew up in Stockholm as the eldest child in a family of four siblings. Astri received a solid education. She attended the Technical School (Konstfack), Sigrid Blomberg's sculpture school, and Caleb Althin's and Carl Wilhelmson's painting schools. In 1920, she studied in Paris and then for four years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where she had Carl Milles as her teacher, among others. During her studies in Paris, she met the writer, composer, and artist Evert Taube and they married in Stockholm in 1925. Written by SKBL See less
