At home, the children witness a terrible argument between their parents, during which their mom, the catechism teacher and mother of the three children, reveals her affair with a priest and teacher from the same school. After the violent argument, he leaves the house that night, leaving the children alone with their mother. During the early hours of the morning, she begins to hear voices that cause her mind to spiral, entangling everything she is experiencing as a wife, lover, and schizophrenic. A crescendo of erratic behaviors and grotesque, terrifying visions converge with the religion of her time, while domestic violence and manipulation blend with the context of a conservative society that has just entered the 1990s, in central Mexico. The next morning a family friend arrives at Claudia's house and finds it covered in blood. Terrified by the scene, she goes upstairs and finds the mother lying down, her veins cut, but still alive, while her children are lying dead at the edge of the bed. Samuel Castorena and Víctor Navarro, investigative police officers, begin investigating the triple filicide. The men interview the father, who appears cynical and cold, even angry. Both know there were calls between the couple that night. Time is running out, and the pressure is mounting to close the case. The evidence points to the mother as the guilty party and the material author of the crime, but the investigators suspect that the father may have had a lot to do with it, despite not being there during the night. Inspired by real events and blends fiction with elements of a thriller and horror. The horror in the story is not based on the supernatural, but on the mind of a disturbed and unsupervised mother, alone with her children. The story questions the mental state of those we least suspect, the irresponsible condemnation of mental disorders, and the ignorance surrounding them. Hiena tells us how society sought to condemn and never understand what happened and continues to happen-mental disorders. Written by Alejandro Mac Gregor See less
