When the story begins he could be best described as an introvert. He refuses to date, call his mother, and only has one close friend left. While working in the library, Nathan meets Elizabeth, a beautiful nursing major who begins to melt away the walls Nathan puts up. After spending time together Nathan tells Elizabeth that his older brother died in a drunk driving accident and that he is directly the blame.
