A union between Sweden and Poland-Lithuania The year is 1587. The king of Poland-Lithuania has died and a new one is to be chosen. The Swedish King Johan III launches his son, Crown Prince Sigismund, as a candidate. Sigismund's mother, Katarina Jagellonica, was the sister of the now deceased Polish king. That makes Sigismund's candidacy strong. Johan sees how the son can form a powerful union - how Sweden and Poland form a common front. But in Sweden there is a power game going on between Johan and his brother Duke Karl. It is an inflamed conflict, which i.a. concerns the duke's exercise of power, but above all that they stand on opposite sides in the matter of religion. Written by
