There were nine segments woven together with some narration by the stars and a parade of songs and celebrities. The special featured around 30 of country music's top names. After Charlie Daniels opened the show, Barbara Mandrell then introduces clips of national TV appearances by Tennessee Ernie Ford, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Jerry Reed and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton to represent the country's pop "crossover" appeal.
